Hi guys,

I'm a new guy here, whilst i often read the reviews and whatnot, i've never actually posted before.

And i know hardware like the back of my pocket, but i've also never ever O/Ced before, so i'm a rookie when it comes to that area.

Recently i had put together a system basically consisting of:

AMD Phenom II X3 720BE (0903 batch, not 0904, didn't work to enable the 4th core )
Asus M4A79 Deluxe (i know i know, i wanted the T version but there wasn't any supply for another month)
Sapphire HD4850X2
Corsair TwinX Dominator PC2-8500 (Yes, the good kind ^^)

Basically the post here on the frontpage of the Website, i'd be highly interested in knowing exactly how i can copy those settings over, like every detail to get that over in the BIOS.

If anyone could provide me with the details to get this exact O/C over into my machine, including if necessary the Northbridge Voltages/multiplier and whatnot, i would highly appreciate it.

That O/C at least looks alot more optimized then just increasing the voltage to 1.55 and multiplier to 18,5 which ends up @ 3.7Ghz vs. 1.495 and 19,0 multiplier @ 3.8Ghz that's on the front page.

Thanks in advance,

New rookie OCing Dutch guy

Welcome to the forums. While I don't run AMD these days (except for a good ol' S939 unit) I think your setup looks quite good. That 4850X2 card rocks. And I'm sure you'll get your questions answered.

Thanks

I tend to avoid fora for the simple reason that often it's infested with either hardcore fanboys or just trolling people, and i don't care much about those.
I build systems as a hobby and as a living, and yes i know the i7 is stronger, but in price/performance cost, there's just no beating the X3.

I actually bought the new rig for a nephew of mine, he loves computers and wants a new one from his old Intel system, and he loves the prospect of having a potent machine that's highly O/Cable without super high nuclear reactor temperatures that Intel is producing, the X3 fit that bill perfectly.

PS: I still have an old machine lying around, S939 AMD64 3500+ As old as it is, it's still pulling it's weight around, and i have a free upgrade coming to 4800+ X2 in a few days (a mate of mine had a 4800+ which recently the mobo died of, so he upgraded and had a leftover 4800+, which i could quickly ninja from him ^^).

The HD4850X2 though for some reason from tests seems to scale better then just having 2 HD4850 and CrossFire them, really weird stuff, and i was hoping HiS would make one, too much hope though apparently

My 720BE is arriving today and I plan to take it to 3.3Ghz at 1.35 vcore. Should be easy enough with the unlocked multi. Most review sites show it takes a lot more voltage past this point to take it to 3.6-3.8Ghz range but don't think its worth it IMHO.

Everything is worth it for a tweaker

The multiplier being unlocked is 1 thing, but i want it to be maxed out, and the front page overclock seems very optimized, i know with simply increasing voltage to 1.55 and Multiplier to 18,5 i can get 3,7Ghz.

However, O/C on the frontpage is not only running at 1.495V, it's also running @ 3.8 with a multiplier of 19, seems to be far better tbh.

Anyway, still hoping for help

Please realize that the voltage reported in various Windows utilities is not necessarily what the BIOS settings are. That 1.495 you see on the front page is most likely from a BIOS setting of over 1.5v. As an example, in the BIOS for my mobo I have the voltage set at 1.425, yet it is reported in CPU-Z at 1.41.

Also, each CPU/mobo/PSU is different, and thus can require different voltages to obtain the same results - and sometimes CANNOT obtain the same results.

i realize this very well, however i've made a selection of premium items, all which have been proven to OC very well.

It doesn't need to be identical to the one on the front page but very close to it in whatever way possible, if i knew how to O/C myself properly (i knew i should've learnt it with the Pentium 100+/Cyrix Era CPUs!) i wouldn't ask, but i want to gain as high as i can optimized on the results, more for the reason of seeing my nephews eyes going "WTF?!" widened as i deliver the system to him O/Ced and ready to rock, ofcourse he has no idea i bought this for him.

Any help on how to realize this would be appreciated, on the voltage issues, looking at the blog O/C it is far more optimized then if i f.ex took Guru 3D's O/C on it, which is basically more voltage and less speed pumped through it.

P.S: This thing is sickeningly not generating any heat.
