I'm less concerned about B2-B3 steppings than I am with chipset development and maturation. As long as venders work to improve and refine their BIOSs (without abandonment of their end users) I'll be just fine.

It's the same with Intel and s775. They've done a relatively good job without leaving some chipset users hanging - be interesting to see how the new 45nms affect older s775 chipsets.

here is my point... if i have the phenom at 2200 which is the normal speed ok. and the ram at 400 everything runs fine, but i notice that increasing the processor speed will also overclock my memories, and the memories doesnt take kindly on overclock, and if i limit the speed in the bios to 400... (aka i cant lock it) the memories go down to 333, because that is their default speed in factory, But note that they are 400 but the factory configuration is 333 just to avoid any problem with max speed in some boards, so you dont get hang in the boot.

I try to overclock the phenom and when i hit 208 or 209 the system run unstable 209X11 is the speed of procesor lol, this happends because the memories go up and start screaming. But if I place them at 333 and take the processor to 220x11=2400 everything runs just fine lol with the memory at 367, another 20 in the processor will make the memories hit 400, thier speed, configure the latencies and such manually and the processor got the nice overclock....

Problems of this is that dunno if the processor can take the 240x11 and PSU will like it... 650 psu with one harddisk.. and 8800gtx... one dvd by the way.

slight topic hijack

you phenom owners recomend me getting a 9600 (BE or not) or should i just get a termalright ultra 120 extreme and overclock my current config higher.

liike how hard is it really to get 2.5 - 2.6 on a phenom and what are sum FPS increases in games and 3dmark06 scores over stock?

im really pissed at the lack of speed my 6000+ has but not too sure the 9600 Phenom will make me feel better.

lol guess i didnt really hijack .. just kinda want in the shamefull phenom club

Exist on anandtech? do they exist ANYWHERE? If raising by 200mhz gives you lockups... heck even if you COULD get a 200mhz stable OC it still doesn't really count as an "OC", it is far too low.

northy84. The phenom will give you faster video encoding, slower EVERYTHING ELSE. Games performance will be much lower on a phenom, any phenom, then your X2 6000.

Your only upgrade option is intel. I recommend e8400 (or a Q9xxx if you encode video)

only problem is that to replace my mobo with comprable mobo that will take a E8400 is way too much $$$ that simply replacing my CPU (the newest BIOS i have supports 1066 ram and phenom)

Your power supply should not be an issue.

If you are at 240x11, run a 'stress' test like Orthos and verify system stability.

Whatever information regarding your BIOS settings would be most helpful.

Could you post

1) cpu voltage
2) NB voltage
3) hypertransport voltage
4) memory voltage
5) HT multi
6) NB multi
7) HT bus speed
8) NB speed
9) FSB/memory ratio

And any other information you think may be helpful

What are your memory timings?

What type of motherboard do you have?

thank you and good luck!

Ha, intel fanboy... from 2002 to early 2007 I said "the only reason to buy an intel processor is ignorance of the alternatives". Well... Heck at first I didn't jump on C2D because the price performance of AMD was better with their X2. But the C2D prices have been going down, and the performance up.

The phenom is flat out slower for most application then your X2. It will be a downgrade. and an E8400 costs 200, and can be paired with a 70$ mobo. (you can keep existing DD2 ram and everything else)... So even those your bios will work with phenom, it is simply not a option, it will be slower then your current processor. Paying 200$ for a downgrade or paying 300$ for twice the performance you now have. Your choice.

Word, but lets keep this on topic. Phenom overclockers? *cricket, cricket*

@ OP, you're probably more likely to find Phenom owners over at [ H ]ard|Forum. They have "segregated" AMD/Intel CPU forums, so people (read: Phenom owners) seem to be more open about what they own.

I've seen several people openly listing Phenoms in their sigs over there.

9. right now is 1:2

board is M2R32-MVP

memories are at 5-5-5-15-21 2T in 400

Wow that is one looooooong list of problems they're having...

oh gowd please dont remind me of that phenom.

I tried and gave it a good day. Then i went okey! packed everything back up nicely back into the box, and returned it at frys.

Unless you already have an AM2 board, i dont understand the reason on that chip expecially when the X3210 is cheaper, and overclocks to 3.2ghz without a heartbeat. Unless you got a really bad X3210, like mark does. :T

And I have yet to see any Phenom that does 2900 (on any air or water) , and that my "bad" chip..

Enlighten me if I am wrong....And they are better per clock cycle, so I don't want the hear that argument.

May'ish timeframe me hopes.

I'm migrating my QX6700 off of my vapoLS rig to air-cooling in preparation for building a Phenom BE rig just to test the crap out of under vapoLS cooling.

Naturally I am holding out for B3 phenom. Not because I think B2 silicon will be a problem for me but because I believe the mobo makers have intentionally under-resourced their AM2/AM2+ design and bios teams waiting for B3 to hit the market. I want a good AM2+ mobo for overclocking before I head into phenom BE territory.

Dumping Asus Striker Extreme i680 and migrating to Asus P5E WS Pro x38 made such a freaken difference in the quality of my QX6700 overclocks (same ram, same PSU, same GPU, same CPU, same cooling, just different mobo, MASSIVE difference in overclocking ease)...so I am waiting for the AM2+ mobo makers to get off their butts, and they seem to be waiting for B3 to go to volume.

I was thinking this mourning abuot this phenom OC problem.... what is the processor is allright and is all about the memories that doesnt like the OC of the processor... Maybe a tweak in the memory Skew timings can do the trick.. like delaying it for 300ps or 450ps...

I know is not much time but maybe they help a bit... delaying the skew timing...

by the way 1ps is a very small time... I dont remember where but someone say that at the speed of light you only move around 3mm in a single ps, 300x3=900. Meaning that 300ps of delay will only hold the light 1 meter.

Anyone here have a Mobo that can set up the skew for the memories???

I mean.. someone with a board in its house that have a bios with the option of setting up the skew for the memory channels.
