Wow. Not even close, by several cosmic furlongs.
That's the irony I was talking about. I hated Jack Black in everything he ever touched before "Bernie" and held a similar opinion as you no doubt hold. He may as well have been Adam Sandler to me.
After "Bernie" I can totally see him doing some of PSH's more likeable character roles. He'd make a good tragic Penguin in a Christopher Nolan Batman movie, for example. Bernie was tragic but likable so it doesn't show that he can replace PSH in his numerous sarcastic a-hole roles.
I should have said "[partially] fill" his niche.
After a user has been clean for a while their tolerance goes back down to that of a noob user. If they shoot up the amount they had been using before rehab it can kill them.

Yeah, me too. I guess you can't blame everyone for not knowing anything about it if they have no experience (first hand or otherwise), but wishing death on someone who is an addict? Come on, that's pathetic. Some of the things that people on here call those with addiction problems are just ridiculous and terrible.another ATOT thread about drugs where only a handful of people understand addiction. Color me surprised.
Then why don't you explain it.another ATOT thread about drugs where only a handful of people understand addiction. Color me surprised.

Addiction is about selfishness. Not thinking about anything but your need to feed that emptiness. Show me one addict that put the needs & welfare of others above their desire to get high. I think lots of people here understand addiction. Not having sympathy for the addict. I feel for the family of the addict, but the actual user, not one bit.
Here is a talented person, who is at the top of his profession, winning awards & respect of his peers, with an obligation to the children he helped bring into this world. Flushing it all down the toilet for a fleeting high that will never fill the void they think they have. Disgusting.
That's a shame. I should probably rewatch Love Lisa. That's the role I'll always remember him for.
Ahh, ok, I haven't seem "Bernie," so it's hard for me to envision what you're talking about.

Anyway, back on topic, I was shocked when I first heard about Hoffman. Had no idea he struggled with addiction. RIP
