Do these get really hot?

I would assume not, since they don't even have a heat sink. Certainly no warmer than a CFL, and nowhere near incandescent.

The LED bulb does get hot at the base. The bulb part is at room temperature.

I bought a ton of these for my bathrooms after testing out a pack. I have 3 & 4-bulb user-facing open lighting strips above each bathroom mirror in my house; I haven't found any LED bulbs until these ones that were suitable for direct-vision viewing. They are still a teeny bit too bright, but we've gotten used to them. They provide so much more light than the old bulbs, they are awesome! Excellent price too :thumbsup:

I got four packs this weekend, stuck four in the bathroom last night. Very bright, much more so than the CFLs that were in there previously. However, I don't like the 2700K light range, just looks way too yellow to me to be comfortable. I previously had two 5000K and two 2700K CFLs in bathroom fixture, now I have two of these bulbs and the original two "cool" colored CFLs installed. Brighter lighting and the blended color of light I like.

Wonder if they have these in cool/5000K coloring?

How does the color compare to an incandescent? The wife is extremely picky about that.

I'm picky about color temperature as well and I think these very, very close to incandescent. The color is spot on but as with all LEDs (in my opinion) the light is just a little harsher than the old Edison bulbs. But that goes for all of them, Cree, Sylvania, etc...

I have a bathroom fixture that looks exactly like that - you're not supposed to put A19 bulbs in there, you're supposed to put in G25 bulbs. A19 bulbs are meant to be put in fixtures with diffusers, like most overhead lights, and they make few concessions to direct viewing. G25 bulbs are big spheres, and most designs are intended to for bare bulb installations.

I have 8x 3 strips = 24 led's in the garage.

My 2 car garage is one of the brightest rooms in my house!

They do not get hot so u can unscrew them when on. But the base is hot of course. I wouldn't recommend unscrewing when they on, but u can do it.

Yeah, but for $5 for a 2-pack, hard to say no :biggrin: TCP has a 40w G25 version, $19 shipped for a 3-pack:

If you have ever burnt your fingers touching a regular light bulb, these are way cooler. You can grab a lit bulb and it will feel cold. Should make your air-conditioner electric usage go down slightly if you re-do the whole house. I got four packs, wish I had gotten more. They do seem brighter than an old style 60W bulb, but you get used to it.

They also have CREE BR30 bulbs for cheaper too. Did something happen to LED tech that cause prices to go down? The cree used to be $20 for 1 bulb, now it is 10.

I went ahead and purchased 1 box, and 1 bulb works, the other don't.
The one that works is brighter than I expected.
Anyone dealt with Philips warranty services before? I don't feel like returning them both.

For people stocking up, make sure you test them!

Yeah, already tried that on 3 different units. It just won't turn on.

I have 2 fixtures; that state no more than 40 watts. Is it safe to put in a 60 watt equivalent that is using 6.5 (or whatever) watts? Yes? No?
I know the wattage cap is USUALLY heat driven. I have several brands of 60's, some of the bases do get hot. A GE one, the bulb actually gets hot, which was surprising. I will check these out tonight.

I cant WAIT for 75's to go on these type of sales. I can ONLY DREAM of 100's LOL.

Yup, perfectly safe. The wattage cap is related to how much current the bulb draws, which is directly proportional to the heat the bulb is dissipating. An LED or CFL bulb is drawing way less current. So long as the actual wattage is less than the wattage the socket can handle, and the bulb fits etc, it's safe.
