Your post was a great read! Hope you can test macrovision soon. I've read that the DVP642 is macrovision-disabled out of the box (but not CGMS/A disabled). So it should work recording to analog sources like VCR. Not sure if this varies based on firmware version being used though.

This is for real! Got there as they opened at 10:00. They had it in their database but they were OOS. The guy showed me a demo. I asked him if he'd sell it to me and he said "no." He said I could order it "special order," so I did. I can pick it up when it comes in, Saturday, maybe Tuesday, whenever, they'll call me. Meantime, I can send in for my $20 rebate he says... no UPC required. I just cancelled my Amazon.com order. After tax and MIR, my cost is $56.11.
