I'm resurrecting this thread because based on the comments and voting here, as a long time Oral B user, I got a Sonicare to try. I probably shouldn't have gone for a high end model given I had no idea if I was going to use it, but I'm glad I did.

What I'm most impressed with is that it seems to be getting rid of some stubborn stains I had along the gum line of some of my lower teeth. I don't know if maybe the last time I ordered heads for the Oral B I got ones that were too stiff or what the problem was but it didn't seem to be getting where it needed to go.

I can't tell if the Sonicare is going to completely remove these stains but it seems to be working so far. With a small change in my technique I think I might be able to get them all.

The only complaint I have is that the head isn't as easy to use for the back of the teeth. It tends to splash a little since I guess I have fairly small teeth (not far above the gumline) and the brush doesn't fit completely behind them.

If you have used both - which is your preferred based on overall feel, comfort, and noise level?

The Sonicare kind I guess is just a vibration style, while the Braun Oral-B models usually have physically moving parts to the head - back and forth and circular rotation and whatnot.

I'm looking mostly at the models that are right about $50-60.

Necro aside:
I still have the same Braun Oral B from many years ago. It works great. Cleans my teeth. I'm happy with it.

I've had a Sonicare since this post - it's worked fine by me too. But this crazy newfangled devices that propose to brush all your teeth at once in under 5 seconds (to the same cleanliness as 2-3 minutes total brushing, so they claim). Can't say I'm not lusting after those now, though I'm waiting for more data on real efficacy of course.

Sounds like you got the one with 4 brush patters? Gum, white, and 2 others I think. Wifey and I are looking at the models at Costco and saw that one. Ours is 7 years old and kind of tired...need to replace it.

Have you tried closing your mouth slightly to get the head of the brush deeper back there? Thats what I have to do.
