This.

Don't want to get tazed? Don't run on the damn field. Don't do things you aren't supposed to do, don't go places you shouldn't be.

It's really that simple.

Yeah, you know the next time a stranger walks on my lawn I'm going to slug them for trespassing. You know, maybe a black eye/broken nose, etc. Even if there's no threat. Hell even if it's just a little kid. Gotta teach them varmits a lesson. Don't want to be illegally assaulted? Get off my lawn.

There's a difference between walking on your lawn and disrupting a scheduled event, ignoring warnings, and acting like a retard. How about you provide a valid comparison?

Why are police providing security at a baseball game?

There's always police at sporting events. Something about 30-70k people in a confined area, many drunk, during an event where emotions run irrationally high, leads to a need for police protection....

....especially in Philly. Hell, the old Phillies stadium had a jail inside of it. You could be arrested, jailed, and arraigned before ever hitting the parking lot!

At any rate, as far as I know the cities don't foot the bill for this - the team pays the police departments for the protection.

Interesting, thanks for the info. Shows how many sporting events I've been to.

The kid deserved to get tackled and dragged off the field like, oh, every single other time this has happened. He wasn't violent, he wasn't endangering anybody, he was probably drunk and being a moron. Surround him, tackle him, arrest him. Done.

This is another case of a cop taking the stupid way out because he wants to be a tough guy.

He's 17 - if he's drunk you can add that to his list of crimes, then.

lets see...criminal trespass, resisting arrest, underage drinking, public intoxication, got anything else to add to the list?

I think he means the police running onto the field. Normally stadium staff take care of "runners" and for good reason.

Edit: Guess he didn't know police are at the ballpark normally. Just rarely chasing people on the field.

So, do nothing and encourage others to jump on the field? Based on your post, tasing the douche was better than trying to tackle and fight the kid.

No they don't. Police have normally been on the field to assist.

So now they're tazing people for doing something harmless, and that everyone expects to happen during sporting events.

Wonderful.

I'm going to start tazing people when they get mildly belligerent with me, or even disagree with me on any subject. If you can't beat them, join them, AMIRITE?

You're kidding right? Or you must be 12, you can tell the huge difference between the number of delinquents these days to the number twenty years ago, thirty years ago, etc. Or you can just shut your eyes, cover your ears, and pretend there are no problems like you are doing now.

HAHAHA, Yea, read some history; it's too late to open your eyes to the world unforntunately since it's apparently already passed you by.

Well, you're not a police officer dealing with someone resisting arrest.

From the way you post, it's obvious you're 12, bringing no substance with your arguments so I won't bother wasting more time on you. You should grow up a bit, maybe have a family, understand the current state of our country first. Reality can be harsh, sorry to let you know.

The number of single parent households is much higher now than in the past. The number of two working parents in a household is also higher than in the past. The two biggest factors in the decreased parental supervision that occurs in today's society than in the past.

No, you're right, I'm not a pussy bitch. I have no need to taze somebody for being obnoxious. Being a pussy doesn't give you an excuse to do so, though, it just makes you a PUSSY.

Oh noes, he's running around on the field like hundreds of others have done harmlessly in the past!

Just let the idiot tire himself out, he's not hurting anyone.

They to make this a universally known punishment for anyone who runs onto the field like this. I bet the number of idiots who attempt this would go down drastically.

lol! I'm a runner, I could jog around that field for 3 hours+ easily if I wanted to, should the staff let me halt the game for 3 hours for my jog...I mean I'm not hurting anyone afterall.

heh, apparently Philly cops can't win, they're "pussies" according to ATOT no matter what they do.

A couple of weeks ago, an off-duty cop DOESN'T punch a guy in the face for intentionally vomiting on his children at a Phillies game. ATOT declares him a "pussy", even though his perfectly rational explanation is that if he got arrested, his kids would be at the game alone - plus there were other people in the stands to do that for him.

Now, we come to this, where again a cop is a "pussy", this time for using force in the line of duty.

The anti-cop mentality some people have here is laughable.

From personal opinion, I'm sort of divided on the issue, I can understand both sides of the argument so based on that, I can't fault the cop for his decision. He went a bit far but I wouldn't say he went overboard. There are certainly a lot dumber reasons for using a taser. You can't expect every action taken to be exactly the right amount of force for any situation. Some are bound to go a bit far and some are bound to be too passive, except we don't hear of the times when a cop should have used a taser and didn't... because it isn't newsworthy.

lol how fucking sad. i think they need to review how out of shape the cops are.

i don't care that the guy got tazed. i care more about how fat the cops are.

In the past, they've been tackled, been injured or injured the tackler.

No they don't. Police have normally been on the field to assist.

The majority of the times I've seen someone get tackled on the field have been by event staff/security not people wearing "Police" shirts or uniforms. Of course the cops "assist" putting the guy in handcuffs and driving his ass to jail after for trespassing.

Very rarely they are the ones doing the tackling because with all their equipment they can't catch up. (As this incident clearly shows.) Normally, at least in baseball, it's the field crew/tarp guys that get the runners. Simply due to the fact that they outnumber the cops that are on the field level providing security mainly to the dugout area. They corral him and he either trips trying to get away or they tackle him like 99% of the situations out there.

Police Officers taking out runners, at least in baseball stadiums, is far from the norm.

Any veteran field rusher knows you don't run in GD circles. Like peek-a-boo, you make an appearance and then get the fuck out.
