CANON DOES NOT WARRANTY their PRINT HEAD. It seems like to design to goes out in 2 years. Replacing your PRINT HEAD cost half the cost of new PRINTER. U FIGURE. I dunno about other brand.

For egale: pigmented inks do have better fade resistance as compared to dye-based inks, but that does come at the price of a smaller color gamut. For this reason, current top-end pigment ink based printers, like the Epson 2200 and R800, are better suited as art printers that also offer good photo quality as opposed to top quality photo printers period. If I was an Epson fan and wanted their top quality letter-size photo printer, I'd rather have the R300 over the R800.
Loralon: On what do you base this claim about color gamut? Epson says the R800 actually has a 22% wider gamut than previous models, because of the inclusion of red and blue inks. We've noticed absolutely no degradation of gamut in skin tones etc. as a result of the elimination of lt. magenta and lt. cyan on our R800, and shadow detail in near blacks is much better than any of our previous printers. Not to mention its Gloss Optimizer which has eliminated all bronzing problems on blacks.

I like the output on my HP Photosmart 7550.

I use it lightly though - Wally world for most priinting as it cost less.

just throw down for a Epson Stylus Pro 9600, they only cost 5000$ but fusking A they make amazing prints up to 44 inches wide and 100 feet long, printed some stuff yesterday it looks like film, and you can pony up to the Pro 10600 for $7K and it prints on archival paper

in reality get a Canon i860 or i960

i have the 860 and love it, but that epson 9600 is sweet, im sure canons banner printer is just as good

If you are looking for a DEDICATED photo printer, you can do no better (in the ~$200 range - check Hot Deals there is a CURRENT one) than the Canon i960 (it ALSO does excellent test).

However, i chose the i860 - 1st it's ~$40 cheaper; 2ndly it prints better TEXT (faster too) with an extra (large) black ink cartridge (and ANOTHER one for photo printing) than the i960.

Canon is the WAY to GO. Separate ink cartridges so you dont get the 'ink rip-off' HP and Epson stick to you. Unbelievable SILENT and FAST.

Think CANON

(there is a $30MIR available on both the i860 and i960)

The CANON PRINTHEAD IS WARRANTEED FOR 1 YEAR.

I've found that after 2 years it's better to to upgrade the whole printer anyway because the speed and print quality have advanced for far it's isn't worth it to fix an old inkjet. It's not like they are that expensive in the first place. Especially with you can run a Canon so cheap.

I've had an S series Canon printhead go out but not until i beat it to death. NEVER had a i series printhead go out.
