ETLA, you forgot to mention that not only it's big and clear. It's even better than scanning real negative (35mm) to computer, unless you have those real expensive film scanner. Welcome to digital world man...

I have one of those HP Photosmart scanners that does 2400dpi. That works out to like 7.5 megapixel for a 35mm slide, way higher resolution than you're going to get with any digital camera and it only cost me a few hundred dollars (don't remember price off hand.) Also remember that each pixel of a digital camera only reads one color where as a photo scanner converts each pixel into its true color (36 bit for the HP.)

It's going to be a number of years before digital cameras are going to replace film ones, at least for me.

Then... it's just me who have only a cheapo film scanner. The output from my scanner is just terrible compare with my 950. Maybe it's time to pickup a new one.. or should i go enroll to art school instead.

You guys are running me into debt! It sucks. I bought the S100 deal for $360 a few hours ago, after fighting through server errors n' stuff. I was tempted by the Fuji 1400 for 209 at 800.com, but figured that the quality and size and extras of the S100 deal made it worth it. I compared and contrasted the two (AC adapter, Lithium Ion batteries, etc), and decided the S100 was a better deal for me.

Hopefully, I'll be happy with my deal. I'd go for the $100 Hyatt deal, cept I don't know anyone that stays at the Hyatt...Fsck it. I do it anyways and see if any of my friends want it.

I do not know why most people like canon. Does this really much better? I post fuji finepix 2400 3 days before on mercata, for $240 total, 2.1 Mpix, and 3x optical zoom. But seems no people like it, no one responce, except I see this deal gone within 15 minutes. I think for digital camera, 2M is OK and enough for fun. But I still like real camera, I mean SLR one. Except too expensive for me.

Yea, real cameras are better. I trust Canon a wee bit more than Fuji for some reason. Call me old fashioned (I'm 22, BTW). My friend has a Fuji 1200 and is not happy with it, so I thought that I would avoid Fuji.

The S100 is much smaller than the 2400 and includes AC adapter and rechargeable battery pack.

If I had noticed the Mercata deal on the 2400 I would have been really tempted. But, I'm happy with the deal I got on the S100.

I hope that we're both happy with our purchases....

Good luck on your purchase. Actually I have a Nikon Coolpix 950 for about 8 month. I love it, believe it or not. I already take about 1000 pictures on that. It's pretty, but not as good as SLR. I know Fuji is not as good as Canon. But they had 3 type of lense for digital camera, finepix 1400 and 2400 are not same type. There 4900 are really good, but too expensive now.
Anyway, I like Nikon more, but I think Canon always have better design. Those Fuji is good as a gift.

I agree with the people earlier who said regular is better than digital for photo quality. Nikon and Canon make great optics. However, I have a Pentax and love it. Unfortunately after heavy use, one of my old F series autofocus lenses needs repair. Wish photoalley had pentax lenses..

Personally, I suspect that PhotoAlley must have gotten pissed hahaa~ their site is very very hard to access and I've gotten emails/PM from people asking about the camera deals. I think they tried to either pull the deals off right on time or they are updating on inventories. But as of now..the $150 off $600 is over, but you can still get the COOLPIX at Mercata, but not SLR real film cameras =( nooo~~~ oh well, I still got my Mercata to spend..I WANT TO BUY the SamSung 19&quot;I need to do the dual monitor set up....

Actually I got coolpix950 in March, at about $420 or so. I am not sure if I can get those rebate, if so, then I will bring it down to $270 even without ebate.

As far as I know, it's much more difficult to get a bargain on SLR than on Digital one.
