I also received a tracking number for the 950 I ordered from Photoalley. It looks like they really are shipping stuff as long as you received an order confirmation.

Also, where did you guys read that ebates couldn't be used on this deal?

I got it when the mobshop still has name as accompany. For a group buy, I got for about 650 with 20% off, then another something off, so I paid for $460 or $480. Then Pointclick give me a check for another %10 off. So, I do not remember exactly, but seems final I paid for about $420. Now I wish to know if I can use that $150 off?

Bestfry:

I don't think you will qualify for that rebate since the $150 is for purchases made between Nov 1st - Dec 31st. I think there was another rebate for purchases made from Sep or Oct 1st - Oct 31st $100 rebate so I don't think you can get one being purchased in March, but there might have been one during that time I don't know, but chances are they rebate deadline would have passed by now. Sorry.

DaYooper, you can get the ebates discount. You just have to link to photoalley's site through ebates site first.

UPDATE: Wednesday November 22.
----
On my Nikon 950 order...

I've been checking my order status since I ordered at 6:00am Sunday. This morning it now says "back ordered". There have been no emails other than the confirmation one that I got Sunday morning. I emailed them yesterday to get order status and no response.

Not looking good!

My confirmation also was changed to "backorder" today as well. This was after I called CS today around 10:00am CST and was told that my camera was slated to ship today. I had requested and paid $ 10.00 more for 2-day delivery. I'll see what happens.

ETLA, what do you mean no more 150.00 coupon. Do you mean the vendor's 100.00 instant coupon?

Also, can anybody recommend the best rechargable batteries (NiMh, etc.)and reader card for this camera. Is there a reader that can connect to my scsi connection? If not, I suppose USB is the fastest at the moment so what do I actually do with the memory card from the camera? Do you just pop it in the reader and plug the reader into the USB port? I remember a comment earlier in this deal, in the initial thread to this deal, when somebody commented that this camera was not USB compatible. Then, someone responded that it didn't matter because the reader would take care of this. School me people.

My 950 from Photoalley actually shipped. Either that or they are UPSing me an empty box about the correct weight.

I went through ebates and the banner was at the top of the screen the entire time so I guess I shoud get it.

My order for Nikon 950 placed around 7 pm EST on Sunday also shows backordered! But when I ordered it was in stock! What's happening?

Yes, this pissed me off. Why did they say "in stock" ... sort of a bait and switch if you ask me. We had the option of going with Mercata or them... and it takes them until WEDNESDAY to update their system... and they don't even notify us?!?

I ordered at 6:00am PST on Sunday. I sent email 24 hours ago (Tuesday) and no answer.

FitzM: On how to use the camera. USB is way fast relative to the memory cards. No need for SCSI, that would be a huge expense and no gain. USB is perfect for this.

My advice:

Option 1: If you can find a great deal on the Lexar memory cards... such as the 48MB for $60 or under then go for it... they come with their own reader. Throw out the 8MB that comes with the nikon and use only Lexar cards.

Option 2: If you want mixed card support (can't find the steals on the Lexars) then get yourself a Sandisk USB reader. Staples carries them and is great to use coupons and price match ($29.99). These work great with Win2K (no driver disk required) or Win98 (use driver disk taht comes with reader).

Compact Flash is really a "IDE Hard drive" emulator. You pop it in and you have a hard disk interface... you copy the files off and erase them then the memory is ready to put back in your camera!

I have the Sandisk... the Lexar cards work with it too. But the 48MB Lexar Cards are on sale lots of places with a rebate.. some really good deals. I got my at C4Sure for $40 after rebate before they sold out Saturday.

My c4Sure Lexar card was delivered today! Just rubs salt in the fact that now I'm screwed by PhotoAlley who just today updated me to "Backorder" on my Nikon 950!

Thanks for the advice mrVW.

One last question: I realize this is a relative question but for the "average" user would much more than 48 mb really be necessary?

Like you say it really depends on the user, but if you shoot everything in the 1600x1200 fine mode that's only 50-60 pix on the 48mb card. Not very many when you think about it. You can always shoot at a lower resoultion or higher compression, but why spend the $$$ on a high quality camera then. That said, I ordered a couple of the Lexar 48mb cards myself. At like $35 each after the rebate your not going to find CF any cheaper per MB unless you settle for 16mb cards.

Just got a Nikon 70-300 ED and SB-23 for my F4. Btw, RitzCamera has 28-80 for only $110. Now I guess I might need a second SLR just in case, which one is good N80 or N60?
Well, N80 uses Lithium battery, those battery must cost a lot. I still love my F4 which uses standard AA size battery.

Search the forums for "lexar" -- pretty unique word I got 2 of the 48MB last Friday when Computers4Sure was selling them for $70... and that was BEFORE rebate. With the $30 rebate, for $100 total I get 96MB! Now I just want my camera
