Wow, great thread here guys! How do you take photos at night that turn out?

A lens that can handle extremely low light and a decent light source is a good start, high speed film as well.
As far as digital goes, yes, having a cam that can handle extremely low light. I didn't do any cleanup on my night pictures (or any of the pictures in my galleries) other than cropping. Canon makes a great low light cam. You also need some sort of light source...and a low shutter speed. Most of my night pictures range from 1 second to the highest setting my G3 has which is 15 seconds.

Not all of them, but most of the ones I do are handheld. I use tripods, but very rarely

What is the max exposure you'll use without a tripod? I don't have much luck beyond 1/8 second.

Yeah, definately need a tripod for multiple second shots.

My pics were taken with a lowly A60. I can give EXIF info if anyone is interested.

Without a tripod getting past 1/8th a second is pretty impossible I agree

That snow covered willow looks kind of eerie with that background :Q

Yeah, you almost just have to get lucky at those kind of shutter speeds. I have moderate luck at 1/8 - 1/4th. But lately I have been learning to stop way down and use the flash with macro shots, so it hasn't been much of an issue..

What does everyone have?

For my SLR, I've got a Nikon N80

A 28-105mm 1:3.5 -4.5 D wide angle macro lens w/ polarizing filter
A 28-80 Nikkor G lens
A 75-240mm 1:4.5-5.6D Nikkor telephoto lens

I sold a lot of the stuff I used to have when I was really into it. Just kept a few lenses

My digital camera is a Canon G2

I'm just learning on a Canon EOS 10D and a Bogen Tripod with pan/tilt head.

I have a 28-135 IS, a 70-200mm F4 L and a 1.4X Extender for the 70-200mm.

I'm planning to sell the 70-200mm for a Sigma (Bigma) 50-500mm.

You aren't allowed to post. Every one of your pictures puts anything in this thread to shame.
