That's Disneyland "It's a small world" ride, .

ShutterFly, do you mind letting me know the locations of those waves? Looks like some very nice lines in the sunset pix. If it's any where in Cali, you can PM me.

The waves were shot at Waimea Bay on Oahu. The first one in December, the second late January. I've got lots more if you guys wanna see em. The sunset1 was about a quarter-mile up the road from Waimea. And sunset3 was about a quarter-mile before Waimea.

Any of you photography types want to recommend a book for beginners. I have had a Canon S40 for a 1.5 years and would really like to know how to manipulate the manual controls for great shots.

Read the manual for the camera to find out HOW to change the settings on the camera... then just experiment with the settings. That's really the only way to do it cause nobody, no matter how good a photographer, can look at a sunset and say, "I need the shutter set to 1/400th of a sec., fstop at 5.3, and ISO 200."
The big advantage of a digital camera is being able to shot tons of shots of the scene you want and pick out the best one later without paying buttloads for film and developing.

Yep..

That's what I say.. the pics I posted are some of the ones I like the most out of the 4500 I've taken. That's whats so great about a digital camera. Just think of how much time and $$ it would take if that was with film. Plus the fact that by the time you get the pics developed, you can't remember the settings you used.. lol

Just get a digital camera, and go shutter happy. That's one of the best ways to learn, IMO.

Multiple, big memory cards, and 2-3 sets of high quality batteries are also a good investment. I have 2 sets of Gold Peak 2000 mAh batteries and a fast charger with a car adapter... I can fill up a 64 MB memory card with the flash and LCD with about 90 pictures on one set of batteries... although after about 50 or so it takes quite a while for the flash to charge... but... it's still taking pictures =)

Heh.

I have a 256mb card, which holds ~200-250 pics at maximum resolution(1600x1200, 2mp). Also have a set of Powerex 2200mAh batteries. I haven't gotten another set because they last about 300 - 400 shots, ~250 if they're all with flash. It's kinda hard to take that many pics in just a few hours unless you're having fun in continuous drive mode or something.

Have a top of the line Maha C401-FS charger. It can charge them in an hour, but I never bother. "Slow" charge is easier on the batteries, and still only takes ~3 hours.

Those wave pictures show the major sucking out shore break
at Waimea Bay. Some people actually boogie board that stuff!

Gotta love some of the awesome photo opportunities that Arizona offers ya! Tonights sunset was awesome and gave me a couple semi-decent shots of some mountain up where I live. Nothing like the pics you've got tho. *Photo Envy*

The sunset was nice tonight. I thought about going out and finding a decent spot, but decided i was too lazy. Arizona does give some great photo opportunities.

Yep... I can't remember how many times I've seen people get rescued... I probably have some with people bodyboarding somewhere. Its amazing to see how small the people look compared to the waves.

I think for the photos I posted I either photoshopped them out or the beach was closed.

These are what I managed to snag just tonight from my porch. I haven't really gone through them so the gallery includes all the bad ones as I was going through and trying different settings. Shot with a Canon S50.

I've got a Canon s400, but I hardly call myself a photographer. I've never worked with the manual settings, so I don't really know what ISO, shutter speed, or f stop do. Oh well, I have tomorrow off, so off I got to learn! Here are some pics from Sedona (absoultely gorgeous..... my pics can't do it justice)

Sorry for huge pics...
