What's it mean when a digital camera constantly takes blurry pictures? Relatively new camera that should not be malfunctioning already.

Casio Exilim EX-S600 if it helps.

are you hand holding at lower than 1/100 shutter?

are you examining images a monitor? that will accentuate many errors, because most digicams only take pics that, even with a tripod, shouldn't be enlarged past 8x10.

If you're using the camera in full automatic mode on a BRIGHT sunny day and it's still blurry, there might be problems.

True. I'm not familiar with the camera and whether you can specify shutter speeds, but using auto mode outside on a brightly sunny day will ensure possibly the fastest shutter the camera can handle, which will rule out any hand-shake casuing the blurring.

for good measure he should set it on something stable and use the self-timer to set off the shutter, just to eliminate as many variables as possible.

I can't remember the last time I took a picture during the day, but I will have to test this tomorrow morning.

ElFenix, what do you suggest in your above post for setting?

set it on a table or a chair outside, something hard and sturdy. then just use the self timer for 2 seconds or 10 seconds. the reason to do this is so that pushing the shutter button doesn't introduce shake into the picture.

I meant in terms of changing shutter speed and all that kind of stuff. Camera also has an "anti-shake" mode that doesn't seem to do anything

If you're going to test it outside on a sunny day, try taking pictures with the anti-shake on and off. It might be possible that the anti-shake mode might be bad and causing the problem.

I noticed that the camera has a manual focus mode. Are you sure you don't have it on that setting?

Is anything in the pictures sharp? If so, it's misfocusing. If not, the camera isn't being held steady for the duration of the photograph.

you get a new one is there any way to set it to focus on the center point only? if so, do that and stick it on a tripod/table and take a picture of a specific object.. like a soda can or something. post pics.

Is there a nice, big fat fingerprint on the lense?
