photoshop crashing on me! help!

so i bought the fry's ecs and p4 2.4 gig deal and went to install it into my computer. Now the computer resets whenever I repeatedly move a picture layer round and bout for several seconds in photoshop. I thought it was the power supply since I had only 230 watts so I went and got myself a sparkle 350 watts but still having problem. Jumpers on the motherboard is already set to sdram and the correct voltage. My graphic card is an old creative TnT2. I am thinking a software/driver problem but not sure. Anyone else has any experience? I tried running prime95 for a day and it didnt come up with any error so I am pretty sure its not a cpu related problem. Any help is appreciated.

how big is your scratch disk set to in photoshop? also, it helps to have the scratch disk on a seperate partition/drive. do you have these panning issues in any other photo-editing programs?

you're correct in assuming it's videocard related, but try to eliminate all other options first

my scratch disk at default whatever that is. how do i change it and to what size should it be? sorry i am still new to photoshop. It is verison 7.0 btw.

Why am I using this card? Cause I don't really play 3D games so I think 2D wise, this is good enough hehe.

scratch disk...hmmm...it depends on what you will be doing.

i sometimes end up with files in excess of 200mb. i think you would be safe with 256mb, don't quote me on that tho.

it's in the preferences somewhere...tools-prefs.

also, virtual memory is important.

strange problem...are you sure it's limited to photoshop? try paintshop pro just for fun

I havent tried running any other graphic programs. I been running 3dmark 2001 endless loop to test overall system and so far not a single hiccup.

Never had a lack of scratch disk kill my computer to the point of rebooting. Usually it kills the current photoshop session with a nice popup expressing regret and sorrow (really!) that the event occurred.

Whenever something happens in photoshop that causes your computer to reboot the culprit is most likely memory stability related.

The solution to the problem lies in what causes the memory instability (you all are thinking no shiznit sherlock now...). Power supply, motherboard, or maybe the memory itself.

First step to debug mobo/mem combo is to set your memory options in BIOS as conservative as possible (high CAS latency, lowest MHZ speed, etc.) and try to duplicate the problem.

And this assumes that you have ruled out sofware as the culprit by installing patches, etc.
