After watching that video,

I'm more concerned about how to improve my Photoshop skills rather than being concerned over the downfall of society's view on beauty.

You know, as soon as her hair and modest makeup were done, she looked great. They didn't need to rearrange her face. Girls like wearing makeup. I'm not persuaded.

And another thought. I know of a lot of photographers who dislike "overcooking" the post processing that is so prevalent in this type of work today. It's so overdone in some cases the models turn out looking like plastic dolls. So when you photoshop - don't overcook it. The idea is it shouldn't be obvious any post processing was done at all.

I randomly read somewhere that modeling is trending towards slightly weightier girls. Since that one model died a little bit ago on the catwalk from heart failure, there's been a bit of backlash against the walking skeleton.

Or do they like wearing makeup because it's ingrained in them from youth that it is a good and "fun" thing to do? Sort of like the usual, "Boys play with GI Joes and tools, Girls play with Barbies and do sewing. Boys like blue, girls like pink." Traditional gender roles and behaviors, taught from the time kids are very young.

You say that as if it's automatically a bad thing.

Females are the fairer, child raising sex. It's built into us. They go for the dolls, they play house, they dress up and wear makeup to attract a mate. The general idea behind that is not a learned behavior. The details of fashion and make up of course are, but the motivation comes from deep within. It's part of the evolutionary drive that differentiates the sexes, and I don't see anything wrong it Don't be fooled if you hear one complain about having to wear it. It's the same as when they complain about you paying attention to their chest when it's coming out of a low cut top, with glitter lotion smeared on it.

The stereotypical roles of boys and girls and how they should act aren't bad on their own; what I disagree with is not allowing children to explore activities that don't fall within their stereotypical gender role. I have no problem with girls playing with trucks, boys playing with dolls, girls not wanting to wear makeup, etc. Society has certain expectations of each gender, and is suspicious of people who don't fit the expectation. That's what's bad about gender stereotyping.

I think it is a learned behavior. There may be some innate tendency towards one activity or another, but I think that if society didn't have expectations of what boys and girls can and cannot do, there'd be more boys playing with dolls and more girls playing with GI Joes in the backyard.

spotted the video on youtube earlier today.

Not a surprise, obviously we're on a computer forum for people to see the photoshop part as more important. Pphotoshop artists do nice tricks nowadays... There was a website with a lot of stars before and after the PS treatment, probably easy to google it.

As for the tendency of getting thinner women onto the catwalk...
Thinner women have next to no tits or real woman features, very close to a young teen boy's.The rise of the homosexual man in the fashion industry probably has something to do with this.

Just do a google image search on claudia schiffer and compare to the photo in the article getbush links to. it's been less than a decade since then. Photoshop was still very archaic and cumbersome. Yet they had great results... Maybe it's technological laziness
