I figure someone here has attempted data recovery on their own. I just lost a year+ of work on a laptop hard drive I really should have backed up. The drive does not spin up. The drive is not recognized by the bios. It is a 20 Gig IBM Travelstar DJSA-220
So far I ordered an identical drive off ebay. I'm going to try swapping the logic boards, as it is the last thing I can think of to do before sending it out to one of the many commercial data recovery places. Most of the decent ones looked to be $600-1000, and I'd really like to try to avoid spending that much money if I can.
Has anyone done hardware repair on this or any notebook HDD?
Is replacing the logic board (as I am about to try) worth doing?
Is replaceing the motor without a real clean room a bad idea?
TIA
