So I was cleaning out my closet and saw an old 8800GT laying around. Assuming it's still functional, how do I use it as a PhsyX card? Just pop in into a pci-e slot and enable psysX in the control panel?

Yep pretty much, overclock the bolts off it and you should be fine.

Just go to the "Set PhysX" part of NVCP and dedicate the card to PhysX.

It doesn't need to be overclocked. Just pop the card into an extra PCI-e slot. Even a 4x slot is fine. Load the latest Nvidia driver from nvidia.com. In the Control Panel, just select 8800GT for PhysX use.

This is perhaps a really stupid question, but here goes:
Can I have an nVidia PhysX co-processor when using a Radeon 4850 as the primary card?

Sorry for the thread hijack, I didn't think that my question warranted its own thread.

I don't think you can use a radeon and nvidia card together

Well, obviously you can't hook them up CF/SLI style without a lucid chip, but I'm pretty sure that you can use them independent of each-other in the same system. IIRC, there was someone on here who does that.
That's why I'm asking if you can use an nV card as a PhysX co-processor to an AMD main card.

It is possible,..

How-to guide on getting PhysX to work on a AMD primary card.

heres the physX:
http://www.ngohq.com/graphic-cards/17706-hybrid-physx-mod-v1-03-v1-05ff.html

ends up looking like this:

The 5870 almost matches the 480 in Mafia II with full PhysX on (when both have a 285 for physX).
In this the 5870 with a 285 for physX, is much faster than the stand alone 480 is.

8800GT is okay...I suppose:

No, Nvidia's software disables GPU PhysX as an option for the few games that use it when an AMD card/IGP is detected in the system.

If you do some research there are hacks/mods to get it working if you decide its worth the effort.

I would just make sure you're actually playing games that use the GPU PhysX acceleration as it doesn't actually work for games just because they use PhysX.

My 9800GT overclocked to 770/1820 isn't fast enough to produce better fps than a single 470 in BMAC with the 470 doing both PhysX and rendering.

This is in DX9, with no AA. I didn't bother to test it with higher settings, and because the 9800GT is listed first I can't actually load up the game in DX11 because it reads the DX9 card first and disable DX11.

Personally I don't think it's worth the effort with the 560ti, maybe if you really lay on the settings and get it to drop below 30 fps without PhysX running, but I wouldn't play it like that in the first place.

9800GT is just too slow anymore, I know it helped in Mafia II when I had a single 470, but it actually reduces fps compared to just running it on the 470 with it doing rendering as well.
