39USC, 3002a governs the mailing of locksmith tools. The code makes it illegal for us to mail "locksmithing tools" if the recipient is not among the below listed. Unfortunately, the code fails to definewhat constitutes a "bona fide locksmith" and the other professions listed. If you are unsure if you qualify, we ask that you consult your attorney for their opinion.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CERTIFICATION TO RECEIVE LOCKSMITHING TOOLS

The undersigned hereby certifies that he/she/it is eligible, pursuant to 39 USC 30 Sec. 3002a to receive locksmithing devices though the mail. The undersigned certifies that they are eligible because he/she/it is
(check one or more)

A bona fide locksmith
A lock distributor
A sworn law enforcement officer
A bona fide repossessor
A motor vehicle dealer
A lock manufacturer
A motor vehicle manufacturer

Plus, this place has better deals/more selection.......

This is really old fashioned technology... let me tell you a story of the high tech way of doing things:

I once got locked out of my house once, while the fire at the stove was going... don't ask me how this happened, long story, but it just happened. So, called a locksmith.

20 mins later, this guy turns up, we march up to the door and he whips out this contraption that looks looks like a gun, but the end was full of 'pins'. All he does, is stick the gun into the lock, then pulls the trigger like 6-7 times (every pull for every pin on the lock). Then 'click', turns it and he opened the door in 5 seconds.

I was stunned. This was no cheap lock. Moral of the story - this guy was pro. He could open ANY lock out there, and I didn't doubt him. I mean, that gadget was amazing... if you are a locksmith, you probably know of it.

We get into this interesting conversation, and there are many ways to open a lock. One would be to completely decimate the inside of a lock by inserting a special titanium drill bit and drilling it out. That works pretty good apparently, but leaves a trail. He came from the old soviet republic, and was actually a thief believe it or not. That's how he earned his living, going from apartment to apartment and stealing for food... I actually respected him - he did what he had to do for his family and kids. It is a tough world out there. Now, he's just trying to earn an honest living.

Anyway, my guess is that these lockpicks for sale for 20 bucks are useless. Yup, may as well use a paperclip with some practice.

My work truck is a 99 Ford Ranger. You can unlock them by pulling off the radio antenna and sticking it through the hole under the door handle. I could not believe how easy it was untill someone told me to try it.

I have been wanting to start a auto unlocking business for some time now, but have never found the way in. A guy in Dallas who works for Popalock, told me they sent him to school in Louisiana for a week and gave hime a set of tools. I would really rather not work for someone else, just looking for the tools. Anyone?

You can make a jimmy bar in about 5 minutes. The problem is many cars now have the lock linncages protected from such attacks.

That being said, if someone wants int hey will get in. The only thing that changes is how long it takes.

I work @ home Depot, and learned how to pick locks quickl. The only way to rekey a lock without a key is to pick it. A Kwikset takes me about 30 seonds, while a schlage takes about 2 minutes. All I need is a piece of spring steel and a paperclip. ( i use an awl that has been filed down for strength ) It really is sad.

now those round locks are another story

Don't all makes of cars have master keys? You don't need to pick them. Also, can't you use that long flat stick with the teeth on most cars? My sister was locked out and we called AAA. The guy showed up, didn't even bother to park (just left the truck in the middle of the street) and jumped out, unlocked the car and sped off.

I am looking to get a decent set. Where would you guys recommend looking and which sets specifically? I am checking out the links provided already but since I am relatively new to all this, I'd like to know what the buy.com or newegg of the lockpicking world is. That is, what are the main 3-5 sites with quality kits at good prices.

If you mean tubular locks (e.b. vending machine locks), there are picks for them too. They're pretty easy with a little practice.

how did you guys learn how to pick locks? i tried to learn a few times, but never got past that whole tumblers thing...

Well, I just picked up a set and read the MIT guide a few times. The first time it took me 1/2 hour probably, but now I can do it in a few minutes.

I use a kit I got for about $35, and has probably 15 picks and 6 tension wrenches. It's worth getting a kit with a bunch of different picks, because everyone has different favorite types, and some doors require different styles of picking.

Tumbler locks take a little more effort.... you have to sucessfully pick it several times to get it to unlock, and several more to lock it.

Hey at least Ford was kind enough to include your emergency key with the truck!
