Picked up a Galaxy GTX460 768MB, says "world's first detachable fan" on the front of the box. $111.99 + tax.

Also picked up an XFX 4670 1GB card, for $48.99 + tax.

I think I did ok on the GTX460. (Yes, I know the 768MB cards aren't the best for gaming, the 1GB cards are.)

I'm a little unsure if the 4670 was a decent buy or not. I know it's not much of a gaming card, but I was thinking that the 5450 cards were $30-35 at Newegg, so a 4670 for $50 wasn't a bad deal. Am I wrong? Did I waste money.

After looking at the box when I got home, I see it has DDR2 memory. Not even DDR3.

XFX HD 4670 1 GB DDR2 low profile is $53.17 shipped at Amazon with prime.
XFX HD 4670 1 GB DDR2 750M full height is $54.
Low profile had 9 good reviews (not for demanding games though.
750M one review saying it plays like a 4650 because of DDR2.

It remains a usable new card for $53, nothing except AGP HD 4670s on newegg under a $100.
newegg had EVGA refurbished DDR5 GT240 cards for $44 which is probably the same performance give or take.
Adequate to upgrade on board video or light gaming. Try it ?

Hey, thanks for checking out Amazon.com for me, I forgot to think to check there. I did check Newegg, but they wanted > $100 for an AGP 4x/8x 4670 IceQ edition. But we all know that high-end AGP cards are rare and overpriced.

So it looks like I saved $2 over Amazon.com. Maybe I'll return it. I'll offer it to a friend of mine that's on a 3450. Only problem is, friend needs HDMI out, and this card has dual-DVI. Although, since this is a 4-series, I think it has a TV-out port. Maybe I'll sell it to a different friend, who doesn't play PC games, so that he can play his emulators on his 30+ CRT display.

I still have a NIB HD4850 (Visiontek) from BestBuy from 2-3 years ago, from initial release day.

Tech Level: High
Ownership: 1 month to 1 year

1 out of 5 eggsDo Flames or Smoke Come First?

Pros: Price w/rebate.

Cons: The card in first slot burst into flames setting off my smoke detector. Took several days to air out the house to get rid of the burnt plastic smell. Also, the customer service representative was rude and confrontational. I had to start yelling to get a RMA

Other Thoughts: After one of two cards burst into flames, I monitored temperatures more closely. This card is supposedly a SLI solution but the top card runs fifty to sixty degrees higher even with very good case air flow and two 120 MM fans blowing cool air from outside directly on the cards. I was forced to use a 18 inch fan on medium to keep the temperature below 100 C degrees. Not wanting to lose my system board and components, replaced it with a different brand.

Bursts into flames? WTF? That doesn't sound good. Hopefully my card doesn't have that problem.

I have the exact 460, nice card, though I wouldn't have paid that much.

Best buy is very unpredictible in their video card pricing. You can get good deals on a close out or sale model. I got a 9800GT for 80.00 a couple of years ago. The prices can even vary from one store to another in the same area.

But you have to be very careful also, as two or three year old low end models can still be 50.00 or more.
