How does this car compare to a 135i? The seem to be very similar with power and size.

The z4 weighs a touch less and while it does have less torque it is a bit quicker. It also has a true LSD so it should be able to put the power down easier.

Just got rid of my M coupe at the end of July. LOVED it. Wish I didn't have to but needed to get into something practical.

I also have an older ranger that I keep around for other sorta stuff. I don't have a backseat with either vehicle, but it's rarely a problem since everyone else I know has a vehicle with backseats..

Congrats on the M Coupe! Enjoy that S54...rev the shit out of it! =)

Thanks! I'm definitely learning the best ways to shift.. very aggressively.. It's really tough to drive the car normally, it really likes to be revved to 5k before shifting

Wow! Congrats! That must be amazing to drive. I assume it's a stick right?

Yes.. The m coupes only came in 6 speeds. This is one of the few differences between the z4 m and the m3 CSL.. The transmission is supposedly just as robust, but designed after the m3 and to fit the z4 m. It's really not bad though, I haven't had any problems with it.

I'm normally not a fan of the Z4 but it looks amazing in black

It really looks best in person.. I'd seen them before in pictures and liked the overall design, but it took actually seeing one drive by for me to decide to buy one. I've looked for most of a year before finding this one.

They only made ~1900 or so m coupes. The body and interior is (primarily) z4.. The suspension and brakes are from the m3 CSL. The steering was designed by the m motorsport team at BMW (regular z4 had an electric adjustable steering that was heavily criticized by magazines) z4 m is hydraulic.

Mine is one of the last 20 made, I looked for a year before finding exactly what I wanted.. Nothing off-lease (I wanted to meet the original owner), specific interior options. It had 9000 miles when I bought it.. We're well over 12k now a month later lol

My camera is in the shop, iphone pics don't do justice so I'll update in a week or so

Great machine, but I don't personally like the appearance. I can see how some people do like it, but I do give it credit for being striking.

The old Z3-M "Clownshoe" or "boot" is fugly, but in a good way (since someone else mentioned this already in the thread). I am sure that car gets a lot of "WTF was that 'thing'?! comments.

I agree completely with this. I never liked in pictures...and then I saw one in person at the factory...really does have a presence.

Glad you took your time and found the one you wanted. The S54 is a peach of an engine that makes you just want to drive. Enjoy!

Congrats and enjoy! It's an awesome car...perhaps a collector's item.

I wouldn't mind having one just because the factory where it was built is literally 15 minutes from our house in Greenville, SC...well that and it has an S54 in it.

Z4 is one of those cars that I used to think was hideous but now like it. Z4 M roadster would be nice Like rich man's Miata

The old m3 engine vs the new turbo engine. The potential with a chip on the 135/335 is unbelievable. You may want to look up the HPFP issue with the turbo however. On the other hand, the S54 is a tried and true motor. People have put tons of miles on it.

One thing I have to say though...if you're a person that cares, the Z4 coupe gets a ton of "WOW WTF IS THAT?". This is in LA/Newporthere Beach which isn't exactly now. You won't get that in a 1.

No doubt that the chipped turbo 6 will outrun an s54..

But my drag racing days etc are over.. I'd rather do mountain runs, and this compared to a 335 is night and day.. I test drove a 335 sport pretty hard and wasn't impressed. I also didn't like the interior. The new m3 v8 is ridiculous, but I really didn't want a 'beast' of a car.

Actually, I don't even think you need to chip the 135 to get beaten (barely) at a drag race...if chipped, I'm pretty sure the 135 will handily put the S54 in its place.

That being said...I don't I could ever give up my S54 for an N54. We'll have to see how the 1 M turns out...but I can't imagine it will have the same feeling revving the crap out of the S54.
