Ok, title jokes aside, I realized I hadn't posted a picture of this guy in a while. He's an adult now at around 2' long from tip to tip. For those of you who are interested, he's a citrus sandfire leatherback bearded dragon.

Also, he took a massive shit on my wife today. I tried not to laugh, but, man, it was a lot.

Edit: I recorded a video of him eating crickets this morning for your viewing pleasure. Sorry it's kind of long and you can hear me saying stupid stuff, but you get to see his crazy tongue. It's available in 720/1080p.

Is he sociable?

Very. He's extremely calm and loves people. I usually sit him on my shoulder for a few hours while I work at night. He won't move a lot other than to randomly lick my neck. My kids go crazy around him and he doesn't mind. They don't hurt him or anything, but they're loud and jumpy.

what does he eat?

Every Sunday I make a salad for him with the following ingredients: butternut squash, carrots, collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens, and green bell peppers. I'm usually making a similar salad for myself, so I don't buy anything extra for him. Throughout the week, I'll give him a few small pieces of an apple or banana.

Twice per week I give him a few dubia roaches or several crickets. Roaches are much healthier and far cleaner, so they're preferable. Roaches = T-bone steak; crickets = McDonald's dollar menu cheeseburger. However, roaches aren't always available because they reproduce slower than crickets and they're in high demand. Roaches also make no noise, produce no smell, and are easier to keep in open containers, which makes them far more people friendly as far as live food goes. The ick-factor of roaches is slightly higher, but once you get past that it's all pros and no cons. Plus, Benedict (my lizard's name - I wanted him to feel like he was part of a country club) goes after roaches like every single one represents his last meal. He'll eat crickets, but he doesn't go crazy for them.

Haha, that's cool that you treat him with such high regard. I've known a few lizard owners who don't even take them out of the fish tank they keep him in and feed them nothing but crickets.

He looks "regal" with his nose turned upward in an upper-class snuffing of lesser-class lizard food like worms and dirty crickets. :awe:

That's pretty cool. Do you have other pets? If so is there much strife?

My dog doesn't even acknowledge his existence. I was expecting to have a problem with that, but it never materialized. She licked him once and he climbed up my clothes to my shoulder from the floor to get away from her, lol.

I have a few tarantulas, but they never get near the dog or lizard. I think the lizard would probably kill the tarantulas, but they'd also probably kill him at the same time.

It bothers me when people get pets and then treat them like picture frames, so I try to do the best I can. The food prep is pretty minimal effort and he loves it.

you have to trim the nails like a cat/dog?

Yes, but it's very difficult. The quick extends quite far and can be hard to see, so you really only trim about 0.5 mm.

lol, I didn't notice that.

Having a really hard time typing out nice looking lizard.

hahaha. I feel honored that you posted in my thread.

Thanks.

I've got some reptiles (snakes), but dragons always kinda weirded me out. I've only ever seen babies, they eat crickets... do big ones eat mice? or just lots of insects?

They can eat mice, but I don't do that. I stick to roaches and crickets.

here's my deal: I love lizards. They are beautiful, interesting and just plain awesome.

But my old roommate had one and the thing bit the shit out of me. Like latched on and I pulled it out of his aquarium with his jaws still attached to my hand.

Since then, I can't imagine putting my hand near one of those things and all I can think about is how the hell someone can have something that just wants to bite you?

So he eats WAY more healthier than most Americans.
