Tight ride, can't believe you finally buckled down. I'm glad that you were a Ferengi about it though. As for breaking it in, there should be something about that in the manual (just search the back don't read the whole thing lol) 4cyl IIRC need to be broken in as per their instructions.

RossMAN,

Here is the real deal in ref to your ? on the new Honda.
Honda is undoubtedly one of the world's great over-all autos.

1. As previously stated, let it warm up as you drive it away normally. i.e. drive it to warm it.
2. Use the gearing to vary the engine RPMs. i.e do not hold the RPM steady during the break-in period.
3. Follow the factory manual guide-lines on the break-in oil change (probably 3K miles), and always change the filter with an oil change. This is so that the specially formulated oil allows the proper friction to properly mate the contact surfaces (such as rings and cylinder walls, rotating & recriprocating contact points).
4. Even if it says Pennzoil on the hood at Indy, the driver(s) and crew use Valvoline. Use Valvoline in your Honda.
5. Your Honda could be broken-in at 50 miles by following this procedure...

In Third gear (after it is fully warmed up), stand-on the footfeed for a five MPH increment starting at approximately 2,500 RPM. - Then, let-off the footfeed 'till it descends to 2,500 RPM or below.
Do this about Ten times in succession.
After third gear is complete, do the same in Fourth gear, repeating the above procedure, Again, do this 10 times in a row.
The same for Fifth gear...10 Times, a five MPH increment.
Your new car is now totally broken in and you no longer need to pay attention to anything except checking the oil & water.

Following this procedure, I usually put 300K+ miles on an engine without anything except routine maintenance, and don't forget the Valvoline (not Synthetic, also, no need for any of the new "high mileage" oils, it's just a marketing gimmick).

Thanks, and a tip 'o the hat to Jim Buick (and another Jim, a former Dr. of Motors.)

I posted it like 3 times, have you read the entire thread? Trust me it's there and it's not hiding.

Went into the dealership last night to re-sign my loan docs because they were able to get me a slightly lower rate saving me about $500. They were selling these 2002 Honda Accord SE's for sticker, LOL the salesman and I had a good laugh.

Retail is for suckers plain and simple.

A correction to my previous post...

If properly accomplished, an engine should continue to become broken-in, within the first 100K miles or so.

OK! Flame away!

It's not too late to start a proper break-in.

When you state "invoice", are you talking the window dressing or the actual factory-to-dealer invoice?

The actual factory-to-dealer invoice not what they state on the window, actually I didn't even look at the window sticker. Just brought the newspaper (didn't even have to show him he already had a copy), they only had 7 in black, silver and red ... kinda wish I had gotten silver but my wife's birthstone is Ruby Red and she's thrilled about the color so I guess happy wife = happy Ross?

It's great to have the dealer do the LOF but,
do they really have a vested interest in keeping your new car on the road indefinitely?
They usually use Kendall Motor Oil, however, some dealers are now using Valvoline.
(I'd ask everytime, if it were me. Just so that you did'nt get used to counting on it.)

AHHH! Red! Learned my lesson, red attracts the cops and so does yellow. Nice looking car, you got a really great deal. My buddy just got the same car but for about $2k to $3k more, maybe I'll rub it in and annoy him. He was already annoyed I just got my 2002 Mustang, I just couldn't afford the Accord coupe V6 (got .9% financing, good overall resale value, cheaper than the accord coupe to maintain over 5 years, and it's not as high up on a thief's hit list). It's eats gas like crazy but I always drive with a grin in my face.

Thanks RossMan for having me check out the Accord again. I had passed on this car because, everyone in my family has one, and I mean everyone. Also, it is also a 5 year old model. I test drove several other cars, Camry, Altima and Protege5. Only the Camry comes close to Honda's refinement. I got mine for 22 bucks more than RossMan's deal. I posted a new thread on the deal I got on it. i guess 22 bucks is a reasonable price for a set of wheel locks. I ask the salesperson to toss a set in.

RossMan - Nice red!

You're welcome. Glad you re-considered the Accord. I also liked the Camry but it cost more and drove like a BOAT!

So what color did you get? I've already replied twice in your Hot Deals thread.

My car is almost at 400 miles in 3 weeks, w00t!

First of all make sure to read numatrix's Hot Deals thread about the Honda Accord SE.

A complete list of the specs and pricing information can be found here.

The car has everything you asked about and more including an automatic transmission.

APR is 4.75%.

So $17,244 @ 4.75% for 5 years = $323.44 per month

Your friend got RAPED RAPED RAPED $20,500 for a freaking 2003 Toyota Corolla? I could have bought it for $14,500 with automatic transmission and all the power goodies.

DAMN $20,500 for a freaking Toyota Corolla?

DAMN.

PM me if you want a copy of a Honda Accord and Toyota Corolla loss leader ad I'll gladly mail you both of them.

Well I couldn't think of any stronger word other than RAPED.

$20,500 for a Corolla? I'm just in disbelief, it had better have EVERYTHING leather, ABS, 6 disc CD, moonroof, including a 6yr/72k extended warranty, roadside assistance AND a maintenance agreement (oil changes, etc.) then it might be worth close to $20,000

The Honda Accord SE is in another class above the Corolla and to add insult to injury I paid nearly $3,000 less than he did.

Woah.
