I have a friend that lives in Long Branch and that is what always amazed me about NJ. You will have a group of beautiful mansions sitting right next to a condemed decript house.

How'd you like to be the victim of the condo invasion?

I live in an older apartment building, but nice area.

Considered the cultural center of town. Arty types, etc.

In the last few years, yupiies have moved in and taken over the area.

There's two Starbucks about 4 blocks from each other.

Alot of protest has happened lately from the long time residents
of the corporatizing of the area. There was a pretty heated debate
when Walgreen's decided to move in .Most of the businesses around here
are independent local businesses. Slowly but surely almost everyone has
had it's corporate counterpart move in.

Anyways, the housing is also changing. Alot of apartment buildings are being
bought and turned into condominiums. Happened across the street from us
last year. Couple months ago, our building and the two next to us were bought, and you guessed it,
they're gonna turn them into condos. The new owners said they aren't going to start
work for a year, but they put us on month to month leases and raised the rent $30
The worst part is, since most of the residents in our building knew they were going to have
to leave eventually, they already moved. This left most of the building empy for a while,
which was nice. Well, I guess the new owners didn't want to lose money, so they rented
out all the vacant apartments in less than a week. I don't think they even cared who
they rented to since they were going to be rennovated afterwards, because almost
all the new people are loud ass party kids with little respect for their home. I find beer cans
and broken bottles tossed off the fire escape on the daily basis. I guess the only cool part
is I found out the new people are paying about $150 more rent a month than we are...

$300k for that isn't bad... especially cause it looks like you can rent that out for profit over time... but who'd want it if they had the eyesores right next door - you're right.

Yea.. the problem is we have thugs from North Jersey that come down here to visit in the summer. You guys should see all the rice burners. You'll see young 18-19 year old African American and Caucasian males driving $50,000 BMW's. Where the hell do they get the money? To be honest they look like thugs. I hate generalizing but thats what I notice.

I remember walking into my local WAWA last memorial day and the place was packed. I then noticed this young Latino male drinking beer in the open. He was heavily tatooed with gang symbols. I wouldn't want to mess with the guy. So imagine if you purchase a $300,000 condo and you have to put up with this non-sense all summer? Then imagine if you have a wife and a child? I'd be scared sh!tless that something would happen to them.

That's why Wildwood has been working so hard to recoup their family-friendly image of ~30 years ago. It was "the place to go" but the glitz of being a "normal" Coney Island kind of place accumulated a lot of riffraff over the years. I don't go to Wildwood for any reason. Ever. If the crowds aren't enough to keep you away, the thugs and punks that comprise half of the throng will be!

Yep.. take a walk on the boardwalk in the middle of the night and you will see what I'm talking about. If I had children I would be scared for their safety.

Heh... actually your only getting half of the house for $300,000 Imagine buying the one section and having a a**hole as a neighbor. The walls are paper thin. They can hear everything and what if he likes to work on his car on the driveway? Oil stains everywhere and you would have to be subjected to this pig?

Thats why I think the houses next to it are a better deal. Just paint it and redo the trim, and it'll look good as new. Too bad there's no front lawn though. Are there backyards?

The backyards are very small. I don't know about buying those old houses only for the fact that the owners are all going to be asking at least $250,000. Knowing what I know now I would have bought the house 5 years ago for $80,000 and would have sold the property for $200,000

But I think it's too late for that idea.
