Picture is stretched when I connect my computer to a projector...

I would be glad if you could help me with a strange problem. Ever since I formatted my computer, I have been unable to use the "Dual Head" feature of my video card properly (an old GF 6600GT); When I play a video and scale it to full screen, the picture ratio is kept on the the monitor (a 4:3 CRT) connected to the first output of my video card while on my projector (a 4:3 DLP) it is always stretched to fit a 4:3 image. When the video material is 4:3, there is obviously no problem as the projector has a native 4:3 resolution, but in any other case there is. I need to set it up so that the projector too - like my monitor - receives the video material already fitted to it's native ratio (4:3) which it then projects with no processing.

Setting the projector to 16:9 only helps with 16:9 video material; this method is impractical for any other aspect ratio.

The projector is connected to the second output of the video card and the "Full-Screen" feature is activated for this output via the driver settings of the card (This feature automatically scales a video shown on output_1 into full screen mode on output_2).

How do I solve this issue?

I'm using the latest adware & spyware free versions of BSplayer and K-Lite codec pack.

Thanks!

I take it there is no option within the projector's menu system that allows enables true aspect ratio?

No, it can only do "16:9" or "4:3" or "native" (and because its native resolution is 800x600, choosing "native" is basically the same as choosing "4:3").

I have to state, again, that it worked flawlessly before formatting the PC, which means that if anything has to be altered, it has got to be something with some software settings on the computer; My bet is that it's within the driver settings of the video card but I can't seem to figure this out.

Do you think I should post this in a different forum (Video Cards and Graphics perhaps?)

hmmmm....yeah, has to be something with the driver settings on your graphics card.

www.htpcnews.com those guys at those forums are pretty sick when it comes to drivers, powerstrip, ffdshow, etc. give them a jingle they can probably sort you out.

yeah you will need additional assistance with software/drivers. I remember having a tough time getting my ATI card to output to my 37" 1080P LCD correctly since the TV's EDID was wrong.

I just did something I should have done before posting this: I installed the original driver supplied with my video card, dating as back as 2005. The aspect ratio now remains loyal to the video material, whatever I feed into the projector. This is not the first time I have witnesses driver issues with nVidia.. Man, I miss Matrox, those guys knew how to create drivers for their hardware. (BTW, DVD playback is still, since 2005 problematic: the picture is just fine on the CRT while on the projector it "jumps" all over the place; this has never happened to me with my old Matrox G450 using the same projector. some food for thought...)

nVidia driver suck now, used to be better than ATI now I am not sure...I am having the same problem with my 1080p pj, I am going to try going to an old driver.

I must say that I can only force my TV to work on my ATI card. Otherwise on any other card, it doesn't allow for 1080P unless I hack the EDID through the DVI port which I don't want to do.

my case is a bit different. It works in Media Player Classic. But since MPC does not display on 2nd display in overlay automatically, I have to drag it over to the 2nd display. VLC plays it displaying to 2nd no problem, except the aspect ratio is not right.
