All of those Americans are CIA agents gathering info and planning the next coup. Damned Americans can never be aboveboard and honest about anything.

Wouldn't that be three decades? The revolution was in '79...so that's three.
/I'm picky.
I do have to admit, that is pretty cool.
Yes, yes, how in the world could we ever forget, what with the US haters wasting no opportunity to inject into any discussion the same two or three US blunders over and over and over. "Shaw of Iran, My Lay, Pinochet! Shaw of Iran, My Lay, Pinochet!"Originally posted by: tnitsuj

Just in case no one knows what he is talking about the CIA sponsored a coup in 1953 to remove the democratically elected governement of Iran in 1953 and replace it with the Shah who was more favorable to our interests. This led to years of hatred towards the Shah and the US/West culminating in the 79 coup.

The above IS important, and for even more reasons than are listed. You are correct in that understanding on both sides is crucial to reconcilliation. Unfortunately, ignorance hinders forgiveness which is required for understanding how to reconcile. In effect, the proverbial "pound of flesh" is never exacted and hostility reigns in the hearts of men despite the well meaning intention of those who seek peace.Originally posted by: tnitsuj
Most Americans have no idea why the Iranians would be sore at us. Understanding on both sides is crucial to reconcilliation.
Am I wrong in thinking that the above is important?

And the US haters would never let on in their incessant 'reminders' that Iranians weren't all that warm and fuzzy towards the West even before the coup. Part of the motive behind the coup was to crack down on the growing Islamic fundamentalism (read: anti-west fanaticism). Oops.So we should just forget our mistakes?..and are you calling me a US hater for bringing up historical facts? Most Americans have no idea why the Iranians would be sore at us...
The coup was an entirely fundamentalist action, wtf are you talking about?Originally posted by: tcsenter
