You are mistaken. Calories are everything. You can exercise all you want, but if you eat to accommodate for that exercise, nothing happens. There are bookloads of research that show exercise alone is an ineffective weight loss method. Exercise + caloric deficit is most effective pair and caloric deficit alone works well.
the dietician...the chick...or you...either way this thread need pictures, it's on page 3 now and nothin since the OP
obviously if you consume more calories than you expend you'll gain weight, and if you have a calorie deficit you'll lose weight. what i meant was that having a healthy diet that will provide your body with the energy it needs is more important than just counting calories; if your goal is to lose weight, don't eat too many calories, but make sure that those calories count. the OP was saying, in regards to his diet, that he ate so many calories a day, with no mention of what he was eating.
You're doing something wrong. The boobs are supposed to go away.

Kidding.
update. How do I change the title of my post btw?

Looks like you have less fat around the belly! Congratulations and keep it up. I wouldn't worry about the weight too much. I think it wou be better if you measure your belly.

thepd7,
you mention in your OP that you intend to work-out to achieve your goal. You mention nothing of a Dietician (Degreed or otherwise) until the 47th post of the thread; and then you're rather unkind in your responses to SociallyChallenged who considerately offers reasonable information that may well help you in your stated goal.
Just curious, why the duplicitous arguments and rather myopic scope of health when a cursory glance at the fat loss sticky and any number of well respected sources will tell you that there is more to the varied goal of weight loss (and your stated method for achieving it) than you're considering?
btw, attention whore or not, it takes guts to post a picture of yourself (even for the purpose of motivation) and then ask for ridicule to keep you on track. I wish you well in your venture and hope you find a groove that becomes a lifestyle change that improves your life and not just a mechanism to get you to number.
Regards,
Sketcher
If you're serious about losing weight and looking better, read the fat loss sticky.
As Deeko said, you can't really spot reduce - that is, force your body to lose fat in one specific area by exercising it. All you can do is set up the conditions for weight loss (a caloric deficit) and your body will decide where the fat comes from. Generally, you'll lose weight from all over the body. However, based on genetics, most people have some trouble spots that hang on to more fat than other areas (typically, hips/stomach for guys and ass/thighs for girls). Nothing you can do about it except continue to lose fat and eventually the trouble spot will lean out as well.
At 6' 250 lbs you are either a brick house or fat. Since I'm never going to be a brick house, I would be fat.
I'm sorry I hurt your feelings, please post pics to prove your definition and I might tell you that you are gorgeous.
Not possible. Exercising muscles in an area won't cause you to lose weight there - it will just work the muscles underneath the fat.
Unfortunately, your body's metabolism determines where it chooses to store/burn fat and you can't change it. For me - almost all of my fat is stored directly on my stomach, with none in my lower body. Hence, even when I'm under 10% body fat (which is most of the time), I still have no semblence of a six pack. Just how it is.
Keep up the work OP and I applaud you for your pics to keep yourself motivated and have accountability. But if you were nicer with your tone you wouldn't have upset so many people here...
You asked about losing fat off your hips. Should you not have asked yoru dietician about this?
Keep up the dieting and you'll have results. Remember 1/2 a lb this week and the next week adds up fast after 1-2months. You HAVE TO BE CONSISTENT AND REALLY WANT IT. But the reality is the people that do not get results do not want it badly enough.

If someone else wasn't a self-righteous know-it-all I wouldn't have upset anyone.
I asked because people seem to want to give advice so I thought this would make them feel better.
Things are still going well, losing weight at a very slight pace and making it to the gym consistently.
going on a work trip so I'll be eating out a lot, I need to keep the sodas to a minimum (0 hopefully) and eat as healthy as possible. I'll post a pic Saturday, if I gain only a pound or two I'm going to call that a win.
You will probably get a lot less people replying for your help now.
It's not them feeling better, it's them trying to help a fellow AT'er. Koing
Diet sodas mate. Go with meat, fish and veg option. Ask to get rid of the chips and potatoes side and for more veg. Most places are fine with this I have found.

lol, backfire ftl. You asked a guy on the internet for qualifications and for once you actually got some and instead just ignore them. SociallyChallenged probably has more education in this field than your registered dietitian. Thanks for letting me know and your input, I'll stick with the registered dietician.
You're being combative. You made a thread on the internet and since you posted pics in this manner and don't have a solid background in physical activity and nutrition you're receiving free advice from people who do. You haven't even been attacked (except the jocular comments at the beginning) for your approach, merely given ideas on how to make it better.I thought my problem was the extra 10 lbs I am carrying but I guess since you are so much smarter than me I'll try your REVOLUTIONARY method of eating slightly more calories than your BMR and exercising. HOLY SHIT why didn't the person who went to school for 6 years think of this...oh wait, she did and we already laid out how to make sure my body doesn't go into starvation mode.
Actually the proper answer is you hate taking criticism. You are ok taking it with your shirtless pics because you simply don't care in that field but when it comes to a different field--namely your ability to actually lose weight and "get healthy" properly--you are extremely bad at taking constructive criticism. This is a fault of you, not of SC.I didn't mention it because I never solicited advice on my diet.
Intentional comedy? Now you're asking for advice? What about I trust the dietitian I am working with so I'm going to forego the opinion of the interwebs.? Also surprised you've not gone over something like spot reduction with your omniscient dietitian, that's physiology 101.Hi All, I'm doing well (still the same weight but that's expected, hitting the gym 3 times a week) but the one thing I am curious about is exercises to lose the fat on the hips. I know I sound like a girl, it just seems like every other part of my body is going well but I'm not sure what exercises to do for those. Any suggestions?
