Body art like piercings and tats do NOT make ugly people good-looking or obnoxious people nice.
If you want to be cool, be friendly.
If you want to be more attractive, work out and treat your body good.
(This is for both guys and girls.)
If you want to express yourself, be a decent person and add some character. Perhaps build a house or plant a tree or something similar.
As for my personal taste: I was in the Navy 9 years and never tempted to get a tattoo.
I'd rather be in shape (actually, I'd rather be taller, but that wont happen and skin drawings wont make up for it either).
It only works on girls when its cute. A butterfly on the ankle or a teddy bear on the butt.
Same with the metal. Up and down the ears isnt too bad. A little gem on the nostrel is actually kind of cute. Navel rings or jewels are nice but only if small and neat looking.
Other stuff down south can be nice to look at but eventually
I will want to head south and I dont need to crack my teeth on anything, so those really arent a great idea.
