My thanks..... I have however already flashed with BIOS v. 1012 which at this time is the newest one. No go though. It however doesn't state whether or not it supports PIII as far as I can see.

I had an asus P2B-d and was able to run a PIII 450 on it.
detected it as PIII never tried overclocking.

First, is it a 500E Coppermine?

If so, which revision number is the mobo? If it's 1.12 or later then it should work fine. (The rev. number is printed in between the PCI slots most likely.)

If it's before 1.12 then you may have to set the voltages. The earliest ones only work at 1.8 V and above. The in-between ones work at various voltages, but on mine it doesn't work properly at voltages like 1.65 (have to set at 1.7). If you have a FC-PGA PIII with FC-PGA slocket which voltage jumpers you're fine. Don't use a PPGA slocket. The Slot 1 CPUs are problematic because you can't manually set the voltages.

Can't find the revision number anywhere. I can't find any way to get the voltage below 1.8v either. guessw it's a too old revision then *sigh*. Thanks for the help, all of you

I think EUG is saying to use a sloket, the convertor board the holds the CPU, you can adjust the voltage on some the convertor boards out there. If you have a slot 1 chip (already mounted on the board) then you probably can't lower the voltage. Sell the slot 1 on fleabay and buy an fc pga chip and a sloket like the msi 6905 for $10.32 at onvia
the you can adjust the voltage. (I was unable to run a celeron 400 on my P2B for some reason probably the settings).

Ducky,

So you're saying it worked at 1.8? If so that's great. (Since you're able to run at 1.8, I am assuming you're running an FC-PGA CPU with voltage-jumpers. The Slot 1 CPUs would not be set at that high a voltage. Same applies to the non-voltage jumpered slockets - with one of those the CPU automatically sets a lower voltage than 1.8.)

If jumpering to 1.7 V doesn't work, then just stick with 1.8, and buy a good fan and heatsink like a Golden Orb or something better. Look harder for the revision number. The lettering is quite small and easy to miss. Sometimes it's only a sticker though I'm told.

Out of interest's sake, which slocket are you using? Actually, you still haven't said which PIII 500 it is. Hard to give real advice if we don't know either.

cisco,

A Celeron 400 should run fine on just about any P2B. It's the Coppermine's that are the problem.

Ummm, I had some trouble figuring whether it was a coppermine or not, which is why I didn't say what it was. It is indeed a coppermine. The lowest voltage setting I have is 1.8v and it doesn't run off it.

I've found another mobo at work that I could take. Dunno which kind, since I can't find any identification on it. Boots up saying it's an Intel AL440 LX with phoenix BIOS. Also claims my processor is a Pentium 300 Pro. Uh..... but it boots just fine. I'm confused. Guess I'm better off trying with that P2B, huh ?

I still dunno what you mean. You've set it at 1.8 V and it still doesn't work? Because it should work at 1.8. Still haven't found the revision number on that P2B?

Is your memory up to the task? (You could try CAS3.) Is your AGP set to 2/3?
