PIII and Kyro 2

I have seen very few comments for those of us running older technology.
I want to upgrade my video card, but the choice is difficult at best between a Prophet 4500 Kyro2 and a 32MB GTS Pro. Price is about the same.

I have seen most reviews of the Kyro2 running on high end (>1GHz) systems. How is the performance on a PIII system (500-600 MHz) with a BX chipset? Will a GTS Pro run faster on the older systems because of the onboard T&L vs a Kyro which uses SW T&L?

Anybody have any real world experience with the Kyro2 and a BX/PIII system?

if you want to try T&L games then you must have a better cpu with kyro 2 (pentium 3 700 or better? ).
if you don't want to play any T&L game than kyro 2 would be a good choise.
if you don't want to upgrade and want those T&L games then try any T&L card instead...

Yeah got to agree there. You will get better performance out of a GF2pro/GTS with that set up. So unless you're thinking of upgrading the rest, then K23 isn't a worthwhile buy.

What games do you play? You might be better off doing something else with your system.

About the same price?, how much can you get a Geforce 2 Pro 32mb for in the U.S?

Teasy, you can usually find them for about $120-130. They're kind of rare; most 32MB GF2 cards are the GTS version and not the Pro. Be sure that you're getting 5ns memory when you buy your card, or else you're not getting a true Pro card.

To answer the original question: yeah, a GF2 Pro or even an overclocked Radeon LE (if you're willing to take your chances) would be the best choice for that system. The slower processor will not be able to handle some of the tasks that the Kyro II's absense of a T&L unit requires.
