Pikmin 3 or Zelda: Wind Waker HD?

I have a dilemma: I don't know which free game I want.

For our Wii U owners out there, since Nintendo is giving away games with Mario Kart 8 I am pondering which one of those games I want. The problem is that I don't have experience with either game. I have never played a Pikmin game before, and the last time I played a Zelda game it was the GameBoy game (i.e. not a modern game).

So from those games, which game would you guys suggest? Both have reviewed rather well, and honestly both look like fun. But I can only pick one and both seem like something I would enjoy.

I vote Pikmin 3 because

1) I haven't played it
2) it has a higher price on amazon at this moment.

I've thought the same thing. Though, I probably would value zelda wind waker more because it is my favorite zelda game of all time.

I love Zelda but I've already played Wind Waker before on GameCube. I'd get Pikmin for free. Gives you something different to play.

I'm not sure which I'd want either. In reality, I want neither, but the 4 options all suck. I got my Wii U as a co-op device to play with my sister and brother-in-law, and New Super Mario Bros. U came with the console. Party U has terrible ratings, so it's not a viable option. Wind Waker doesn't interest me as I'm not a fan of the Zelda franchise, and it's single-player. Pikmin just never intrigued me, so while it's got multiplayer, it also doesn't interest me in the slightest.

Voting for Zelda, because it's Zelda. I've played a bit of Wind Waker. It's one of the easiest Zelda games, but it's still thoroughly fun. I love the art style too, even if people aren't a huge fan of toon Link.

Never played the Pikmin games before so I can't really speak for those.

I breezed through link to the past and link between worlds. Yet wind waker I actually got stuck on a decade ago and never returned back to. Strange considering it's said to be the easiest.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I haven't played a Zelda game since Link to the Past, and I've never played Pikmin. Honestly, prior to the Wii U, I hadn't owned a Nintendo console since my brother and I sold our Nintendo 64 to buy a PlayStation (thanks to Squaresoft's Final Fantasy VII).

Hopefully, my gift cards for Toys R Us arrive by Saturday so I can buy the game from them and get 40% off something. I can also see if Toys R Us will let me price match on the second game.

well, i would vote for pikmin 3, because it is a pretty awesome little game. not that zelda isn't a cool franchise, but pikmin was something a little different. to be honest, i have never played a zelda game myself, although i have spent a lot of time watching others play. my opinion is that if you want something you are familiar with, get zelda. you know it will be fun and it will have the nostalgia factor. if you want a different kind of game that looks beautiful, try pikmin.

my two cents just in case you haven't already decided.

Just a suggestion, I'd get the $60 Gamers Club Unlocked Best Buy has this week. It gives you 20% off new games for 2 years, plus the standard GameStop benefits of 10% off used and 10% extra trade-in.

I figure for $60, I only need to buy 5 games over those 2 years. I made Watch Dogs the first, saved $12. I'll probably get Mario Kart as the second, that's another $12 saved. It basically gives you the same percentage off as Toys R Us if you buy 2 games, but you don't HAVE to buy 2 games, and you'll still save. You get rewards points and the discount, it's a win-win.

With all of the games coming out later in the year (Destiny, Halo collection, Super Smash Bros. Sunset Overdrive, etc.), there's a bunch of money to be saved with the membership.

Thank you for the responses, guys. Though I do wish more than just a couple of you would bother trying to explain your decisions.

I can say the Windwalker is a great remake. It came with my system and I love it. Super Mario U is super fun with multiple people and its what I plan to get with mu code. I have played Pikman 3 and plan to pick it up eventually as well. My wife loved every second we played Mario u over at my friends house so that's why I am getting it as my free game.

While it may not be a bad idea, I'm not really sure if there are enough new games coming out for consoles that I would be willing to buy to make up the cost and then some. That last bit is important... there's no point in buying it to save 20% off 5 games... that just lets you break even, which means you saved nothing. I could buy PC games with it too, but unfortunately, if you're anal about all your games being on Steam (if possible), then buying retail isn't always possible (e.g. any Ubisoft game). Blizzard games might not be bad since I usually buy the collector's editions, and those are never on Steam anyway.

Unfortunately, I don't know if I'll even buy the game now because I only just received my gift card shipment notice today, and USPS tracking says that it will come in on Monday. The 20% off was really the icing on the proverbial cake.

I think it's hard to say you could go 2 years at the start of the generation without 5+ purchases, but that's me. For example, just one the Wii U, I'll probably save 20% on Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, and Super Smash Bros. this year. I'm hoping we get Fire Emblem next year, and I'd probably buy into a Mario Party title, if it came.

IDK if you have the One or PS4, but if you have one of them AND the Wii U, it's almost impossible to not get 5+ games in 2 years. At the same time, you get the 10% off used games and 10% extra trade-in. You also get a buy 2, get 1 free used game coupon, which could be another $30-50 in savings off the bat.

But if you just have the Wii U, I could see it as tough, depending on the franchises you like on the console. I don't think anything after the 5 I named would get purchased, unless Sonic Boom ends up good. However, I have a One, and there are probably 10 games I'll buy in those 2 years. New or used, my purchases will easily save me the money I spent and more.

Oh, and there's also the fact I can basically share the GCU with family. I put it on my dad's account, so he'll save money when getting my brothers 3DS games, and my brother-in-law could use it to save money on games if he gets a One like he plans to.

For what it's worth, I went with Pikmin 3. Though this is going to pretty much fill up my 32GB Wii U now.

I use a cheap little 64gb USB thumb drive on mine for game storage

Not a bad choice. Give multiplayer a shot, it's actually pretty good. There's a competitive mode, where you collect fruits and such to fill up a bingo card and there's a co-op mode where you work with a partner toward high scores within in limited amount of time. Both were pretty fun for my wife and I.
