I'm really looking forward to this game! I grew up on RPG's, went through my Battlefield phase, but lately I am eager for story and decision driven games. I finished DAI 2 months ago, so I'm looking for my next quest. Best part is that this gives me enough time to finish the game and move on to Witcher 3.

For those that are unaware of this game, it is an isometric RPG reminiscent of PC classics such as Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment, and Icewind Dale. The team behind this game (Obsidian entertainment) has great pedigree with this specific style of rpg. Those that grew up knowing about this dev team know what they are capable of creating, as evidenced by the fact that their Kickstarter campaign received close to $4m in backers (original goal was $1m).

I played the beta a while back. Was nice, but clearly still in need of major polish and game play revising. I decided I didn't want to ruin the experience and instead just play it on release.

Last I played it certainly did not feel like the old Infinity Engine games, at least the combat anyway. I'm hoping they fixed that.

Didn't back, but I'm interested to see how it turns out. The infinity engine games are among my favorites.

Considering 'release date' means '1 month for release' to me, as I always wait for a couple of patches before playing a new game, I'm not excited yet.

I'm excited for sure but probably won't have a chance to really play it for a while. Regardless, I hope it is an awesome game!

Taking a wait and see approach.

I take that approach with every game. Too many are pure crap and most of the good ones are not good until they've been patched at least 5 times. I just expect every game will be a disappointment upon release and let other people pay to beta test it. If it gets fixed eventually and is worth buying I'll buy it and if it's never worth it then I have not wasted any time or money.

Backed it, but slightly ambivalent. I've seen pre-order prices around $18 on it before which was lower than the $25 backer price. So much for the backer discount. Also the beta had terrible support for resolutions above 1080p and the combat was lackluster. At this point if I'd consider it successful if it's comparable game to BG EE.

^ This +1,000,000. I don't think you can "go back" as far as 1:1 modern recreations of Infinity / Aurora engine games are concerned. I'll be happy if it just has that "old school" feel without having its keyb+mouse controls nerfed or a "designed for TV's" consolized UI (like watering down quickslots DAO -> DAI style purely because console owners can't click on them with a mouse). Given the amount of cr*p we've had to put up over the years with in that respect I've developed the same "cynical by default but happy to be proven wrong" mindset and know exactly what you mean. :\

For those who've played the Beta (Red Storm, DefDC, Astrallite, etc), what's the combat like? Real time / turn based / pseudo system of "6s real-time rounds", etc? D&D ruleset or something else?

Edit : Also does anyone have some decent screenshots of the actual UI? Most screenshots I've seen were UI-less (including on the official link in OP's post). I've found some like these:-

So where's the skills / spells quickbar? Surely they're not all hidden away behind menu's or does the screen change when you're in combat? Or is that the I/II/III stuff above the characters faces bottom-left here? And what do the green circles above the avatar's represent?

I haven't played the beta in a while and I don't have it installed currently. I'll see if I can install it this weekend and take some screenies. What you've linked is the base interface yes, and yes those icons above the portrait are the spells and abilities (the specific abilities of the character you select are what show up there). Let me know if there's anything in particular you want to see.

Edit: Here are some screens of various things:

Inventory. You see each character's inventory on the right and the selected character's loadout and info on the left.

Crafting menu:

Character info. Way too many numbers going on here IMO. And this is just starting out, as you level up those numbers are only going to get bigger.

Looking at abilities on the bottom left. You can't see the cursor, but I selected the mage, then when moving the mouse over the II icon, the level 2 spells show up above it, and then I right clicked one to see more info.

A look at the mage's spell book:

The area map:

The world map:

One thing I really love, the formation editor!

Wow, that's seriously impressive. Looks a lot better than I initially thought (the lack of a permanent skill quickbar confused me a bit). Thanks very much for the screenshots!

Looks great. I like how they have one window for the inventory but still have it separate for each character. Simple but intuitive.

It looks a lot like a tweaked Baldur's Gate UI wise. Really looking forward to it. I've backed the KS plus I also got the expansion and the digital game guide.

I know some people have a few concerns based off the betas but in my experience the betas are not a real good representation anyway. Divinity Original Sin was kinda clunky and cumbersome pre-release but the final product was amazing.

Blasphemy! There can never be too many numbers in a character info screen!

D:OS was clunky and cumbersome after release too. Good game, but it had some issues UI wise.

Backed this one an had completely forgot about it. Was looking at the preorder and figured "How did I miss the kickstarter for it!?!" so went and checked kickstarter to find I did back it.

Release date less then a week from now.
I decided to get the Champion edition,Royal edition was really too pricey for what you actually get.

Anyway looking forward to this game .

Any discounts on this for less than 45$? I should have backed it but I tend to back games that need more help... and now I regret it since some of those may never be released.
