PC Gamer have their review up, http://www.pcgamer.com/pillars-of-eternity-review/.

92/100 rating so they like it a lot.

Pillars of Eternity is an RPG that really makes you feel like you’re on an adventure. Plunging the depths of ancient ruins, battling the monstrous creatures who lurk there, grabbing the loot, then limping back to the warm glow of an inn’s hearth to rest and steel yourself for the next quest. It’s a testament the quality of the art, atmosphere, and writing that, despite the old school 2D visuals and isometric perspective, I’m completely transported to its world when I play it.
And it’s big. Like, really big. It took me 11 hours to reach Defiance Bay, the first of the game’s two capital cities. There are multi-path, open-ended quests everywhere, and your journal will fill up rapidly as you explore. It was another 30 hours before I reached the second city, Twin Elms, and there are dozens of towns, temples, ruins, and wilderness sections to explore on the way.

This says it all,
they’ve made not only their best game to date, but one of the best RPGs on PC.

preloaded it on steam, also backed it like 2 years ago? whenever they started, haha.

I specifically have been ignoring reviews, betas, updates, etc so I can just get on and struggle/play as I would back in the day.

Best game to do that! I will do the same thing and just explore everything and enjoy what PoE the way it's meant to.

What kind of char you guys going to roll with ?

I am leaning rogue, but maybe mage

Probably going to start with my standard, A big black barbarian named Footlong, then add a rogue and Fighter for the frontline. Back line will be a wizard and 2 chanters. Id add a ranger but i hear they need to be micromanaged to death.

LOL, should have downloaded this earlier, servers are sloooooooooooooow on GOG

Good to see some more positive info come out. Seriously the first ones really turned me off as to whether this would keep any interest. No one was saying the game was bad, but they weren't saying it was worth dropping money on either (aside from one).

Grabbed it from GMG.

Lol nice.

Thing is, are there any rogue companions ? Or will we be able to create more than one character?

I am going into this game almost blind. I skimmed over the classes and recruitable companions ....that's about it .

You can create extra companions at Inns I heard. Or use can use the prerolled NPCs. I may sub out a chanter with a priest on second thought. Spent the last hour and a half going over the manual while I try and download the game

This game looks really, really good. I'll probably hold off for a bit but I can see this being my next purchase.

I'll probably start with one toon, then have a new idea and restart the game again with the new toon, then think about something cool, restart again...BG and NWN series, that's when I contracted this desease.

But will probably start with a human Barbarian or Paladin or a Dwarf Cleric. Then the next playthrough I will try to make a Warlock/Necro/Psionic type of caster.

I remember the Psionic class, I think it was in Dark Sun?!??!

Started off playing a chanter and about an hour into the actual game. So far so good! Been waiting for this for so long and thus far it shows that they've worked insanely hard on it.

Created a mage, but that's as far as I got at lunch. Hope to have a fun game to play on my laptop when traveling or not wanting to play an FPS.

So what's the word on game performance? I read that a few people had GPU temperature issues so far.

As for the starting class, I'm probably going to do a standard knight/paladin or a thief.

Overall review verdict so far seems to be good. What's the combat like, is it like the "6s real-time rounds" thing? That was always the sweet spot in my eyes between real-time & turn-based. Does the overall game have that general BG / NWN "feel" to it?

A friend bought the preorder from GMG I think, will have to see . Looks interesting, but I have a hard time getting into a lot of these style of games for various reasons, which sucks because I generally like a lot of the aspects of them, well the better ones at least. But just struggle to really enjoy playing them. That Polygon article sounds interesting though.

I wish I had the patience to play games like these again.. The burdens of adulthood have crushed my gamer's Soul it seems

I bought Baldurs Gate 2 EE and I played it for about two weeks until I stopped due to boredom. Still, I might buy it later after I've finished some of the games that I have backlogged at the moment..

Anyway, it's great to see Obsidian Entertainment achieve success. They are an extremely talented group of developers, and when they don't have all that pressure from publishers to push a game out before it's ready, they can create wonders!

I have nothing to play until GTA V except for Rogue so I'll give it a shot. I did thoroughly enjoy Planescape a few years back. I'll stick with the same lazy RPG options - Easy difficulty and a lot of tanks. More interested in the world and the quests than the combat.

Combat is the one thing I never cared for in these games. The worlds though...
