Best the OP can do for his computer without spending any money would be to OC his vid card a little and his proc a little.

Spending 60 bucks on another 512MB of RAM will help decrease your load times immensely, and a video card upgrade would help too, but the 200 dollars it'd take would probably be too much for you.

Not sure where people like Todd33 get their information from, but EQ2 is a blast to play. So many layers of complexity and quests to do. And runs very smooth on my P4 2.4C and 6800GT with 1GB of RAM. I do have to turn the terrain textures down to medium settings in cities though, expecially when there are a lot of players actively moving around. Out in combat zones, Antonica, Thundering Steppes, Zek, Enchanted Lands, Varsoon, Stormhold, etc, its not an issue.

Don't let people here tell you that EQ2 is a bad game, its not. Its an extremely good game which looks fantastic. Coming from someone who's played both, EQ2 is the better game for your dollar. Even diehard WoW'ers, like Schadenforth(sp), have admitted they are now bored with most aspects of WoW, save for Raids.

Play EQ2, its fun. And the expansions, which you don't HAVE to buy, will ensure that you continue to have fun in the game.

even if eq2 is a "better game" then WoW, the fact is that he is not going to be able to play it on his system. period. he has a 2200 XP, which would CHOKE even if it had a 6800ultra behind it.
so he would need:
new proc
new mobo
new ram (1gb to play eq2)
new graphics card (6800+ to make the upgrade even worth it)

Comparing any iteration of EQ to warcraft is a joke.

If i were to make any alalogy, i would be EQ to WoW is like sado-massochism to sex with a supermodel.

Sony doesnt think before they do anything. They dont support their customers, their software is buggy, and on top of all that, the environment sucks.

Its a fantasy game, youre supposed to feel like youre *IN* the game, when in reality, with EQ, you feel like your wang is in a meat grinder.

I don't know what you guys are on I bough EQ2 and played it for a month - albiet I got bored after two weeks.

I'm talking about what you need to run the game.

12x10 eveything on medium-ish settings on the following;

1.7
1Gb
G4 4400Ti

It ran fine - FPS at a steady 25-ish, it went down to 13 in large citys - but the lag was about the same so it doesn't matter that much

Meanwhile my buddy hd a A64 3400+ 6800GT and we both got <30 fps with a mix of high textures and low water/particles (1280x1024). It dropped <15 fps in some city zones. That's crappy programming IMO. The SOE technical forums were filled with complaits, manyt from all the new 6800GT/U owners with new $3k rigs. But hey, your system rocks, so I can see how it ran better.

WoW runs at 40-80+ fps on all high with 4x/8x AA/AF and looks better.

i've overclocked my G card and my processor (my 2200 runs at 1900mhz and my G card is at 255/550 (only stable setting)) and it runs pretty damn well in the out doors, it's in the citys where i'm getting my ass handed to me. I think my ram i'm shipping in will work well with the dual-ddr function of my mobo.
