Their greatest years were between 1969 and 1979. Anything after that is crap and anything before that is developmental and crude IMO.

I used to have an entire Pink Floyd Discography, but that was too much. Now I only listen to 4 or 5 albums and Pulse, the live concert.
One of the great bands IMO, but a lot of their stuff is a bit out there.

Yes I do like them and have a few of their albums(Echoes, Animals, Momentary Lapse of reasoning, The Wall, DSOTM, Pulse, Division Bell and Wish You Were Here). A lot of their tunes on most of their albums are just not that good imo. They have quite a few good ones don't get me wrong, but a lot of crap as well. What do you think?

I have all those albums except Echoes and The Wall. The Wall does have some crap songs on it, that's probably why I've put off getting it. Echoes I know nothing about.

But those other albums you mention are all killer, no filler IMO. No you don't need mind-altering substances to truly enjoy them.

Oh wait, P.U.L.S.E. does contain Money which is a lackluster throwback track I insist on skipping.

You have to step outside of the circle if you are to jouney onward.

Damn, that wasn't bad. I should make that into a song

You don't have to try so hard. We can accept people as they are.

First you don't like Pink Floyd, but you own a staggering number of albums. Most people who don't like a band's music usually don't spend money on them, let alone buy EIGHT of their albums.

Next, you don't like AC/DC, one of the cornerstone bands in the history of rock and roll. How many AC/DC albums do you own? All of them?

Do you just make it a habbit of not liking what nearly everyone else likes just for the sake of being different?

Also, I take issue with people saying any music sucks. A band sucks if nobody listens to their work. You DISLIKE a band if a large number of people enjoy a bands work, but you don't.

Big difference. I never say anyone sucks unless I can do what they're doing better.

something is very very wrong with you.

While I'll agree most of their albums I can't sit* through and enjoy every song... but every album I can pick a few songs and be so happy. Many of their songs I still consider some of the greatest music I've ever heard compiled. They have the ability to produce so many different styles of sounds, and do it so wonderfully.

To not like the band is one thing, but to say they are overrated is just blasphemy. Respect the talent, enjoying said talent isn't required.

*edit:
I actually enjoy listening to Zep while on my throne, but with that aside... this was merely a typo.

Who said I didn't like PF? I sure didn't. And as far as AC/DC, yeah I think they suck and don't own any of their music

Maybe the acoustics in the bathroom make it sound bad?

It was progressive before progressive got popular (and annoying). You have to put yourself in the midset of that time frame. This was new and exciting back then with a lot easier access to trippy ass drugs. Very rarely will the classics be appreciated by those who weren't alive back then. You just won't understand why they got popular the way they did. I can't stand the Beatles personally, but I can respect what they did for music at least.

Without them, what would all the stoners listen to?

That being said, I love Floyd, but a lot of their earlier stuff I just don't get at all.

the stoners were listening to the Dead before Floyd existed.

I find that these fan bases don't always overlap, either.

The Doors are insanely overrated. Never understood the appeal. Even though I do not like Zeppelin or Pink Floyd, I can sort of see why people might like them, not so with The Doors.

KT

The Doors deal was mixing poetry into music. I personally don't like them, but Jim Morrison's talent was painting imagery with lyrics.

Led Zeppelin is not overrated. NOBODY did what they did with rock music at that time. They invented heavy metal and the "light and shade" composition method so often used to this day. Their first 6 albums are classics. Unfortunately the excess of 70's rockstar living took it's toll, and by around 1975, they were shells of their former selves. Jimmy Page did not fully recover from his various drug/alcohol additions until the late 1990's, which is a shame because of all those years he's wasted.

Jim Morrison was not a poet.

Such an idea should end ~7th grade for most rational cognitive thinkers.
