Doom9 has people writing programs to convert the format it saves it in to ISO already. It also does SVCD and I'm curious to the quality of that compared to DVD2SVCD. It shows like 265 minutes to do Dogma and I'll let you know the quality in the morning.

If your doing a SVCD with AC3 audio you'll find the audio only lasts for 5 minutes. That's the 5 minute AC3 audio limitation in the demo.

Not using the demo. SVCD quality is crap compared to DVD2SVCD. Its pretty heavily pixelated and it looks like it encodes so it will not end with full cdr's, instead of 2 or 3 cdr's it will go 2 and 1/2. Chapter points are also lost. Have no idea what the audio bitrate is but its not as good either. It might be garbage for SVCD but I heard it did a good job on DVD to DVD-R.

I tried the demo of Instantcopy, I love it. I just bought it.

can't wait to receive it.

The quality of the video depends on how much videos and extras are on the disc (more extras mean more room, so lower bit-rate for video)
but the quality of the video is still really good on a tv set, but noticeably lower on a monitor.
Sound is great
All the menus are there, and the videos for the extras are also there, which is great to anyone who wants to keep that.
If u don't want to leave the menus in, just use dvd2one. Since only the movie remains on dvd, then It will be of higher quality and bitrate.

I'll be definitely using both dvd2one and instantcopy depending on my needs. Both are real good works.

You can manually specify over 4.31GB by pressing F5. Anyway this is a known bug which is fixed in the retail version once you update it. Problem stemmed from deselecting an audio (another language) but instant copy didn't take that into calculation. So you can manually calculate it with the demo.

Am I missing something here ? With the price of commercial DVDs so low, is it worth all this effort to steal the product, or is it just the thrill ?

Yea, your missing something. DVDs are usually $15.00-$20.00. For $20.00 you can own this product and copy as many DVDs as you want. The only other cost is blank DVDR which are usually $1.00-$2.00 each.

It's also not always about "stealing". I have kids, so I have been furiously backing up their DVDs to SVCDs so they can keep a scratchable copy in the van without worrying about having to replace every one of my "cheap" DVDs several times over. I keep waffling about getting a DVD burner to speed up the process (one hour using DVD2ONE instead of 12 hours with DVD2SVCD), but have decided to wait a little bit longer.

I agree w/ SearchMaster. I have nephews & nieces that think my DVD's are frisbees and they've taken a beating, esp the Disney ones, and have used dvd2one. It's def. a $$ saver. They can care less about menu or other features. All they want is to see the movie. I've made a backup of most of the Disney DVD's & only use the backup. So if it's scratched, I'll burn another one.

I've found my kids' dvds laying on the floor in the gameroom data-side up on more than one occasion. Beisdes that, I have 2 dvd players and they watch the hell out of those disney movies. Easier to have a copy next to each machine.

Why does it have to be stealing? I know with how the digital copyright act is written right now, making copies of movies that you own is still illegal. But I don't think the law has progressed with the industry or the market. Almost everyone has at least one dvd player and if you have kids, probaly more than one. When the fair act was established for medium that over time will degrade, cd's and dvd's were somewhat new and were given a shelf life of 100+ years. Thus why would you need to copy them. But they can degrade and all parents can vouch, do not hold up well to the littles ones handeling them day in and day out.

Copying movies from blockbuster is not legal, but is something that people have a choice of doing now. I for one don't usually watch a movie more than once, I just can't get into them once I know what's coming. That said, I do own alot of movies I bought for my children and with the purchase of an in-car theatre system, the movies get handled and left in the truck often. Why would I let my $20+ get ruined when I have the means to protect my "investment"? I originaly got a dvd burner to take all my home videos to dvd to protect our memories, protecting my sanity on a 6 hour drive to grandma's is a pleasant bonus.

Rant over, back to our regularly scheduled hot deal.....

Maybe Ken's single. He does have a good point though, DVD's are pretty cheap, especially compared to CD's, which are still absurdly overpriced. The hassle of copying DVD's by whatever means will probably not be worth it to the average Joe, just us sick technogeeks.

hopefully this isn't a stupid question, but does this software get around region encoding? I have two Region 2 discs that I'd love to watch on my home dvd player (and I haven't been able to switch it to region free). $20 to me would be worth it to make exact copies of these two movies since they're not available here in the US.

This software will not remove region encoding. You can use DVD Decryptor to get rid of region encoding. It's freeware.

Well I still have a temp auth on my card, maybe it's time to look into the possibility of finding a member who lives in the UK who would be willing to ship to me....

I just called J&R to check the status. The CSR told me they are out of stock at the warehouse, but they have plenty of copies at the retail store. He said they would be transferring some copies from the retail store to the warehouse to ship out. He told me it's all dependant on the weather, they had a huge snow storm in new york yesterday. They were closed on Monday because of it.

He said my copy should ship out by the end of the week.

Upper left on the title bar next to the words Instant Copy. Click on the small image.
Except for the ability to keep the menu's, I didn't like this software. I guess I'm just used to the manual process.

i downloaded the Demo and back up "The Sopranos: The First Season" with all menu's which DVD2One does not offer. But the Image quality was poor due to the compression of 4 hrs of video to fit into a 4.7 DVDR. IMO, if you already brought DVD2One I would wait for the update which I heard will include all the menu and extra options.

The quality is likely to be similar, though. You can only do so much without losing quality.

I'd like to try out DVD2one. Anyone want to split the cost with me? DVD2one doesn't come with any licensing agreement, so it's legit. PM me for details.

Sorry if this sounds like stupid question, but I'm totally new to this subject. My question is, Is this the only software that I would need to backup my DVDs, or will I need other software along with this one. I'm looking for a dummies approach where it will just ask me to insert the source DVD, which it will then rip and then ask me to enter a blank DVD to copy to.
