DV version is for Digital input...

Here is a review I found that says the DV version also can capture analog sources, if you have an analog video input on your computer. All you have to do is just install another card for analog support. So it may be better to get the DV version right away.
Has anyone here used this software?

Pinnacle Studio version 8 has just been released. This is still a good deal cuz the box includes a firewire card. Here's a link to the previous thread abt Pinnacle Studio version 7.

Question: Would BestBuy pricematch it? If they do, that'd be great because Best Buy has a rebate for $30.

I highly doubt that Best Buy will pricematch to CompUSA's. They would probably say something to the extent that the price at BB would be cheaper after Rebate, so no go. However, there have been times when CSR's just don't really care, so YMMV. However, I'm not gonna try it; $30 for AV/DV 7.0 is a great deal.

Yeah, BB should Pricematch it no problems. The BB I went to only had the digital, and I needed the analogue, so I went to Compusa and got mine there - they only had analogue cards at this particular store. They had the 4 rechargeable AA rayovacs 1600mah buy one get one free. But for some reason no sales items were in the computer. Batteries rang up 6.49 for a 4 pack, and they overrode to give me a second pack free - ie, 8 rechargeable AA batteries for 6.49! YMMV as I think this was a local fubar.

Gonna play with my pinnacle card, hopefully it'l work ok
If anyone wants a scan of the AA batteries receipt, lemme know, I'll post one.

Wow! I already have a firewire card, so I definitely need to get the AV version for my ferret-cam.

[edit] anyone know what this means?

Note: Windows 2000 and Windows XP support is only for Studio 7 running on 1394 hardware. Studio AV7 or Studio 7 running on a Studio DC10plus card currently does not support Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

It means if you want to use Win2K or XP, then you have to capture with your IEEE1394 (firewire,i-link whatever you want to call it) card. I was rather peeved when I bought studio 7 and it kept giving me errors (like capture card not talking or something like that). I guess this why.

Okay, I take back what I said. I just went to Best Buy, and they pricematched to CompUSA without much problem. I explained that at CompUSA, it was $49.99 out the door, and Best Buy was selling for $59.97 (although there was a $30 rebate after that, so they're both essentially the same price at $29).

So, after pricematching to CompUSA's price of $49.99, the $30 rebate printed out, and it looks like I'll be getting this for $19.99 + tax without any problems.

Ah, good luck getting the AV version. I didn't see anything but the DV versions at both Best Buy and CompUSA. Hope things workout for you though!

Pinnacle PCTV will capture analog, so if you already have it, all you need is the studio DV package to do digital. Plus the Studio 7 software that comes with it will do analog and digital capture/editing. Studio 7 is great Studio 8 is even better because it will actually burn video to cds or dvds. With 7 you need a stand alone program like Nero 5.5, to burn cds and dvds. Also ChumpUSA has Studio 8 onsale for #79.99 with free Hollywood FX Plus (free after MIR). Studio 7 and 8 just come with a limited version of hollywood fx. The Plus version does a lot more things. Depends on how far you're into video editing and how much money you have....

Not enough, apparently.

I'm kind of regretting that I bought the DV version though. My girlfriend, who's actually the one buying this card, wanted to do video capture from a VCR rather than a Hi-8 Camcorder, or something that wasn't digital, so this isn't really good for her. I'm hoping that a Best Buy close to me has it in stock and will let me trade the DV for an AV. She doesn't have a separate analog capture card like I do with the PCTV.

Pinnacle came out with XP analog capture drivers in April. They didn't used to have them. Download them from their site. I grabbed me an analog version since I already have a Firewire card. Besides, analog capture cards are more expensive than Firewire cards.

Does anyone know if you can use Studio DV as a normal Firewire card? ie, using it to hook an external/internal hard drive, CD-R/W etc. ?

Otaking,
I believe a firewire card is a firewire card. I have used the one I received with an older version of Studio DV 1.0 and another one I got later with Studio DV 7.0 with an external firewire enclosure.

But its up and running fine now, thanks again. And just incase any of you are in the east valley/ Phoenix, AZ area, the CompUSA by Fiesta had about 10 of each (AV/DV) on the shelf at noon.

I bought a Pinnacle Studio PCTV Pro on another deal but haven't installed it on my Winxp system yet. I saw a few boxes of the Pinnacle Studio AV and DV at closing time at my local CompUSA. My question is, software aside, is the video capture pci card that comes with the AV version a better performer than what I already have?

That's a good question, I'm pretty sure it is but would like to hear from others on this. Did you check the Pinnacle web site or Pinnacle message boards about this? I think it's the same but with the PCTV you get the tv tuner/fm tuner etc, too.

Sweet, thanks. That pretty much seals the deal for me. BTW, all the stores near the 97008 zip (Portland/Beaverton Oregon) have the analog version in stock as of tonight.
