Some additional info on the AV version. I installed the AV card on my Windows XP system last night. The card works fine with the included Pinnacle Studio software. Unfortunately, at least with the XP drivers, the card isn't Video for Windows compatible, which means there are very few other applications you can use it with, since most third-party apps expect Video for Windows driver compatibility.

I was hoping to use this card to capture video for Gotcha!, a motion-detecting capture program. No luck.

For $29 I'll keep it, but I'm still a bit disapointed.
Well crapola... I need it to capture through a Video For Windows compatible device for the ferret-cam I wanna set up.

*sigh* oh well, waiting for the next deal.

How much does a cheap Firewire card go for? ~$20 + $5 shipping. And all you usually get is Ulead 3 or 4.

...No brainer in my book. Go to CompUSA NOW if you need a Firewire card.

(I'm thinking of getting the AV version just for the extra connections I'd get on the PCI card...)

Bump, very good point........

Question ....other than for capturing video from a digital camcorder, (and of course external devices, what would one use a firewire card for? I got one on this deal from BB, in fact I PriceMatched it to C(fill in your explitive of choice)USA and used a BB GC I had so I actually made a little change on the deal. I was considering whether or not to return the one I got from C***USA or to keep it and send in the rebate on it, and use it in another computer. Any thoughts? Thanks......

I went by Monday night and got the AV for my father. He has a VHS-C analog video camera and also wants to transfer old VHS tapes to VCD. This should do the trick just right. When I was there, I looked at the Studio 8 box. The direct burning to DVD and stuff is the main additional feature I noted, and they want $80 for this new version. I have converted these before with a couple of free/shareware apps and then used Nero to burn the VCDs, and it works fine. To me, this is a pretty nice deal. Dad can use this and figure out what he likes and doesn't about video editting before spending good money on a digital camera and better software in a year or so. Many thanks!

You forgot the part about when you buy Studio 8 you get Hollywood FX Plus Free after MIR. This is a great progrm too since you only get a watered down version (less FX) with Studio 8 alone.

Also, consider this.....Pinnacle sells an upgrade to Studio 7 for 59.99 and if you want Hollywood FX Plus, it's $30 more or $89.99 for both.
Now, I don't know how much Pinnacle charges for shipping, and if they also charge tax, but you might want to consider that if the price is similar to the CompUSA deal, keeping in mind, you don't have to deal with a rebate, you might want to go direct to Pinnacle.

Price Matching Best Buy was not easy for me. I had a difficult time getting Best Buy to pricematch the $49.99 Compusa price. I really had to question the store manager on duty, I do not think he was actually the manager, who said that he wanted the business so the would pricematch it, but it was not usually the policy. I eventually was give the price, but I do not think that I should have had to argue about it. The $59.99 Best Buy price is higher than the $49.99 Compusa price, irrespecitive of the rebates. I do not think it should have been an issue. Any opinions?

I agree with you. Here's what I did....I bought Studio 7 DV from BB last weekend for $59.99. Then the other day I went to ChumpUSA and bought Studio 7 DV for $49.99. Then I go back to BB and show the guy at the customer service counter my receipt from ChumpUSA and say I'd like a price adjustment. He says no problem and credits me back the $59.99 and then charges me $49.99, I wasn't going to argue with him about the 10 cent difference for 110% pm deal. Then I return the one I bought from ChumpUSA to ChumpUSA. So....I get Studio 7 DV from BB for $49.99 - $30.00 MIR for $19.99 plus tax. Not bad for a good firewire card.

Fortunately, both stores are only a few blocks away from each other so I didn't blow the savings on gas or time....

The moral of the story...... I have tried in the past to PM from ads and have had some success but also a lot of grief. I have since done when possible, like another member posted and showed a receipt with a lower price from a competitor. I've had better luck doing it this way (when possible of course) It takes a little extra legwork, ie returnining the other product.

Here's an idea for those needing the AV card version, but don't want to wait or deal with the ChumpUSA rebate. Staples has the same product, Studio 7 AV for $153.49. So PM Staples price with ChumpUSA's 49.99. Add something cheap to bring it to $40. Then use a $10off $40 coupon. So......$153.49- $113.85 = $39.64 plus something for at least 36 cents. -$10.00 = $30.00 plus tax. This way you don't have to mail in a rebate and wait for your money, plus you pay tax on $30.00, not on $49.99. Too bad they don't carry the DV version....
