Don't worry, you'll get your rebate from them. It might take a lot of phone calls and like 10 months but you'll eventually get it. I guess the value of time is a consideration here. If you don't mind the wait, and it's worth the amount of $ to you then go for it. If you don't like waiting that long or constantly having to remind them, then, mayber you shouldn't do the deal.

Has anyone here used this software?

Studio DV 7 review

Studio 7, the software will capture PAL, NTCS, analog or digital, you need the appropriate pci card to bring the actual video into your computer however.

dermotfix,
Conusa rebates don't come even if you do show extreme persistence.
The promotion is magically "expired" after you called them up several times and they promised you each and every time, that a check is on it's way "...5 to 15 business days...".

Got the DV version for $19.99 (plus tax) after CompUSA PM and BB $30MIR.

Saved $10 off the CompUSA price and avoided the New Rochelle rebate. Thanks eXtremist!

The BB rebate is for $30 rather than CUSA's $20, however.

Which one is better DV or AV??? I thought the DV with the firewire is the obvious choice.??? Great deal though.

Digital is always "better" than analog. However it depends on what you are trying to do. If you're trying to capture video from a TV or a VCR or an Analog Camcorder such as VHS or 8mm then you need a card with RCA like analog jacks, SVHS or Hi8 is best captured through an S-Video jack. If you're going to capture from a Digital source, like a digital camcorder then you need the DV version because it comes with a firewire card.
I capture analog thru my Studio PCTV pro, also a tv tuner. I use it for VCR, TV capture, etc. I have a pass thru jack on my digital camcorder so I can convert analog from my analog camcorder into digital (via the digita camcorder) then into the fire wire jack on the computer.

Again it all depends on what you are doing, or trying to do. One card isn't "better" as in what they do, they just do the same thing for different types of video...ie analog or digital.

i think the rebate depends on the company new rochelle is handling them for
sony cd-r took some calling, but sony's own rebate for the tivos took calling and faxing
samsung rebate @ bb by nrny was trouble also (and faxing)
but that cusa rebate for the free stick of 128 with the wrong rebate address was one of the fastest...

It depends on the camcorder you have and what you want to capture. I already had 4 firewire ports and software to capture off of my dv camcorder. Im using the AV to capture off of ANY analog source. Today i was making videos from playstation 2 caps. KEW!!!

Thanks eXtremist !
Now my final cost is $20 (+Tax).

I bought one from CompUSA and showed that receipt to BestBuy smarties.
BestBuy matched the CompUSA price $50 and they have $30 Rebate.
So final cost is $20 (CompUSA stuff returned).

Do you know the V7 is asolete now since the V8 is just coming out? The Pinnacle website replace all v7 to v8 and you can't upgrade for free from v7 to v8!

Yes but you can do a hell of a lot with 7, and at the price it's selling for, why not go for it? Once you learn how to use it and what it can do, 8 will be a lot cheaper, and maybe 9 will even be on it's way.

Some additional info on the AV version. I installed the AV card on my Windows XP system last night. The card works fine with the included Pinnacle Studio software. Unfortunately, at least with the XP drivers, the card isn't Video for Windows compatible, which means there are very few other applications you can use it with, since most third-party apps expect Video for Windows driver compatibility.

I was hoping to use this card to capture video for Gotcha!, a motion-detecting capture program. No luck.

For $29 I'll keep it, but I'm still a bit disapointed.

This may be a little off topic, but I was wondering if I can connect a PAL Hi8 camcorder to the PCTV Pro card via s-video and capture the PAL video from Hi8 tapes using Studio v7?

Not sure if this helps, but, I have a friend who was able to capture PAL digital with a Pinnacle DV card and Studio 7. I think the PCTV pro card does not know whether the analog stream is PAL or NTSC, its up to the software. And since Studio 7 was able to capture PAL digital and convert it to NTSC, why couldn't it do the same with analog?

:| I bought the AV7 5 months ago and all it has given me was hell. The software kept freezing on me and I ended up buying another type of software (Ulead) and converting everytthing to a digital camera and buying a firewire card. It was hell and it took me 4 days to complete a project that should take no more than 4 hours. To make matters worse, I asked to return my AV7 cause my return policy ran out. I have waited 5 freakin months for my RMA number! I still have not recieved it. I finally got an answer 2 weeks ago, but they have not given me the dam number, they only asked for a copy of my receipt! Arggg....I spent $129.99 on a card that completed 0% of my project. What more do they want?????

I got a response to several questions I asked directly from Pinnacle, here's what they said:

Studio PCTV and PCTVpro have been discontinued (no reason given)

Analog capture capabilities of the PCTV cards are the same as the AV capture card, obvious difference being, the PCTV cards can tune TV and radio.

Studio software that comes with PCTV cards is a watered down version of Studio. The Studio 7 that comes with the AV or DV card is much more robust.

From what I've read:

Studio 8 is a lot more robust than Studio 7, and will burn DVDs, CDs, mpeg1, mpeg2, etc. directly from the program. With Studio 7 in order to burn mpeg2 which I guess is like DVD etc., you need another program such as DVD express. From what I've read in reviews, DVD express isn't all that great. Nero 5.5 now will burn mpeg2, but I haven't tried it yet or read a review on it.

DV version: for $29 (AR) you get (1) a high quality Firewire card (connectors: 2 external + 1 internal), (2) a high quality Firewire cable, and (3) Studio V7.

How much does a cheap Firewire card go for? ~$20 + $5 shipping. And all you usually get is Ulead 3 or 4.

...No brainer in my book. Go to CompUSA NOW if you need a Firewire card.

(I'm thinking of getting the AV version just for the extra connections I'd get on the PCI card...)
