Ronstang - don't you think people have tried that? The problems have nothing to do with not installing the software correctly.

Kwad,

How does this deal compare to the $10 after rebate TV card recently on sale at Microcenter B&M?

I have the cybermail card, and I had the pctv pro card, and I can tell you the PCTV pro blows it out of the water, my cybermail card has sound with all this line noise, it's horrible, and the manufacturer has no webpage anymore, no support, really annoying... pinnacle is known for a lot better quality products

Librarian,

Don't know where you got your information from but I have the non pro version of this card & it works perfectly with my Leadtek Winfast GeForce 2 Pro card.

For all you folks wondering what the difference is between the pro version & the non pro version here they are:

-The Pro version has stereo sound coming out from its sound output & the non Pro just does mono. I got around this easily though since I just want the card for video capture. I hooked up a Sony Hi Fi VCR to its composite in & ran the audio to my SB Live & used the VCR as my tuner. Gave me the advantage of a remote for changing the channels (another thing the non Pro version doesn't come with) & stereo sound.

- The Pro version also has a FM tuner built in, don't know how much you folks would need it but that's the other difference.

At $30 I am very tempted. Actually, it's not the money at that price point, but whether or not the product works for what you want it to do. Spending lots of time finding out something doesn't meet your needs can be worse than wasting $30.

I was looking for something that my son could use to edit portions of various VHS tapes, then output to a new "Greatest Hits" tape. This product should work on my Win98 HP machine, but this card will not output to VHS unless you have a video card with TV out. For newer computers, Pinnacle's Studio 7 sounds like a great product but my 1999 hardware is probably not up to task. This video editing stuff uses lots of resources including hard drive space. I decided to wait until I get a new machine, then see what's available then.

The TV Pro card is a great deal if it meets your needs. Good luck.

sorry about going a bit OT, but I have a PCTV regular and haven't been able to get overlay to work in WinXP. Pinniclesys support flat straight says it won't work properly in XP, but you can try but no tech support will be available. anyone have good experience that can help me? PM me or email me. Thanks. ^_^x

dimwit, thanks a lot for those drivers. When I upgraded from win me to win2k, pinnacle told me they didnt support that OS and there werent any drivers for it. I checked around and got it working half-decently but finally gave up. That site also has drivers specifically for win xp which im running now, and install instructions for those looking for it. Again, thanks a lot. Now if I can only find drivers for my Pinnacle DC10+.

Quick Question. I have been trying to get the Cybertainment Video Email Extreme from Microcenter (waiting for them to get it back in stock) and am know thinking of getting this one instead. 1) Is this a better product? 2) Does it support XP and if so can somelink post a link to working drivers? 3) Will it work with my GeForce 2 GTS Pro? Thanks.

looks like they are out of stock online, but have plenty of them in-store. If anyone would be willing to buy it and I will be happy to pay them back plus shipping. I would greatly appreciate that. The nearest compusay to me is 16 miles, and I don't have a car.

Thanks,

Orie

Sesopedalian,

Look moron, I'm not assuming people are stupid but I have two of these cards running perfectly fine on XP systems. The one thing I noticed that was interesting was the software tests always fails under XP but if you do a manual install from the CD ignore the test results and then let XP reinstall the card it always works for me, and I have installed these cards several times on XP machines. I apologize for trying to help but I guess you really don't know what you are talking about since you can't get it working under XP, and if you don't even have the card then just shut your hole and go bother someone else.

BTW Everyone (except Sesopedalian since he knows so much),

If you have a Sound Blaster LIve card you might have to disable the legacy audio drivers to get the PCTV Pro to work. They consume two IRQs and have always caused conflicts on machines I have tried to install PCTV Pros in. There could be some other conflicts but I have always been successful installing these cards once the Live! legacy drivers have been disabled.

Good luck

This is a pretty hot deal. You can try the drivers posted here link
I go the IO Magic PVR which is the non pro version of this card and it's pretty good. For w2k and XP, you can use IUVCR. That program lets me record and have overlay at high resolutions.

does anyone know if WinDVR works for this card?

My roommate uses WinDVR for his Hauppage WinTV Go card.

Well, I went to compusa, it was pretty much a horror story for me. I called him up before I went out to ensure availibility and the manager said they had 7 in stock. So, I went in and looked around for 5 mins at video cards and didn't find it so I asked for some help. The store here in huntsville alabama is about 1 month old so the employees are all new. I asked for help from one guy, he said he didn't know, he said to go ask another guy, so we go ask him and he said he didn't know, lol. So, the guy goes to a computer terminal running aix operating system, and we do a search for Pinnacle, Pinnacle PCTV pro, PCTV, etc, nothing. The guy didn't know what to do so I suggest we goto their webpage and search for the item number and so we did, found it no problem. Went back to the terminal with the item number and it still said there were 7 in stock. Mind you I've been trying to find it for half an hour, it isn't anywhere to be found near the video capture card section, I even looked behind every single box to make sure it wasn't there. So I asked the manager to help find it as it's taking too long, he looks at uses it to find it in the store. It turns out the card is all by itself in the CD-R media section... Hmm, I asked the manager what the hell the card is doing there and tell him it took half an hour of my time and he said he had no idea.

I would have raised hell but I was in a hurry to get to class it took so long. So after I got the card, the man who spent half an hour tells me about their gay warranty plan for $5, I ignored him and walked up to the cash register with the card and he followed me, lol. He was standing with me in line at the checkout isle trying to pressure me into the warranty I told him I wasn't interested. It reminded me of the time I went to Mexico, when a store owner sees me looking at something like I might be interested then they will start following you all around trying to sell it.

Are there any weird issues with this card and Win 98? I installed the card, fired up the comp, and the add new hardware wizard came up. I directed it to the cd and it seemed to install the driver fine. I then went nd tried to install the software package, but it said that the current drivers were old...say what?!?!? The cd says 4.02 on it. After some fenagling, I got the software to install, but the damn wizard said that there was a problem displaying a TV signal. Just like Ronstag said. But I didn't get any prompt to re-install the drivers. Ronstag, did you just go straight to installing the software package or did you install the drivers when the computer started up, then again after installing the software package?

Since the bulk of the problems have been with win xp and not 98, I'm thinking that my card may be defective and I may just go and exchange the damn thing. I have an nVidia TNT2 though, which IS on the list of supported video cards.

Anybody have any ideas? Ronstag? any help would be appreciated.

you might want to try moving the card to a diff pci slot.. it matters because your motherboard will give different slots different resources

I just bought and installed it. The remote requires a 9-pin serial port! Is there an adapter i can buy because i can't remember when i last had a 9pin serial port. Maybe Sega Genesis.

I went to the Compusa store after work today (Monrovia, CA). They had two on the shelf, so I grabbed
one for my bro's birthday. Thanks for the find.

I have 2 9-pin serial ports on each of my boxes, and one on my laptop.

What kind of computer do you have?
