anyone have this drive?

Can you tell me if it has digitial out (2-pin connector) as well as analog out? Also, I've seen drives that have the connector but it's not hooked up internally.

Does anyone actually have it working? I'm trying to replace a 6x Creative but I want to be able to use the 2-pin output to my SBLive.

Thanks!!

I've been looking for this drive. It's a real good price from a decent store (I hope). Total after Ebates is $93.34.

Apparently only the slot model has digital audio output, & they're ~$92 + s/h.

erm... the pioneer drive is sold only as OEM. If you want the retail version, it's packaged as an AOpen drive

Same warranty eh? Didn't know that.

Well the drive from accessmicro is a tray drive. The retail drive I spoke of has the slot loading feature. Slotted Pioneers are quite a bit more expensive than the tray versions, in my experience.

What is the difference between a slot drive and a tray drive? Is one better than the other?

I have a RETAIL Pioneer 16X slot drive in my machine right now. Wish I'd paid less for the OEM, you don't get anything else except a pretty box with the retail version ,except an IDE cable, oooohhhhh.

tray drives are the normal type you see on cdrom drives etc... press a button, out comes a tray, plonk on your disc, push the button/tray again...

slot loads are the type of cd/dvd loading mechanism that you get in car cd players (i.e you just push it into the slot, and the drive accepts it) press a button to eject

slot load drives are cooler (i've got two slot-load pioneer drives, one 36x CDROM, one 6x DVD... theyre both REALLY good drives)

I'm considering this drive, well the 105s slot 16x version which sells for about $98, or the 10x 104s, also slot, which sells for about $80. They are both 40x on the CD-rom side.

I'm wondering wheter the 60% faster DVD speed makes any difference. I read in another thread that the 10x is quieter and actually less subject to variable speed changes when playing movies. Not sure why the later. Or maybe that is just earlier buyers defending THEIR toy.

Any thoughts? I don't consider the price difference of great importance, if there really is a utility for the faster DVD speeds.

But until we start regularly uploading DVD data disks, does it really matter?

Also, anyone know how either the Pioneer 16x or 10x works as a Clone CD reader? You know, when copying those copy protected disks? The subtracks?

I've read several reviews of this drive (both the tray and the slot versions) and people seem to agree that this is one of the best DVD-ROMs available at the moment. I'd like to ask you guys that own this drive about the digital audio extraction (DAE) capabilities. Of all the reviews that I read, the one thing that they all consistently seemed to point out is that the DAE capabilities of this drive aren't very good. If I purchase this drive, it will be replacing my CD-ROM (Kenwood 72x TrueX; rips *extremely* fast) so I'd like to have something that will provide good DAE.

Thanks very much!

bells,
If they can't hot-glue the drive into place what makes you think they can buy and install a decoder card w/software?

Where from? Also, do you know what the utility of faster DVD is (assuming same cd-rom mode speed)?

I have this drive but it's a slot load instead of a tray load. It's very loud when the CD is spinning. My only complaint but other than that, it's great!
