As summary suggest, I was wondering how noisy this drive is for any other owner. I got it at Best buy for 130$ 2 days ago and it slams shut very loudly and reads off of cds very loudly compared to my old Pioneer OEM DVD106S (Slot load).

Is it normal for a tray load to be louder than slot load? Ive used this slot load Pioneer for a couple of years and it still is quieter than this Retail DVR A08XL.

Finally, is this something that i should return and replace at best buy, or am I just overreacting?

Edit:

Also, it burned a Samsung cheap 12X CD-R in 4 minutes flat using "37X." I was under the impression that the drive could only do max 32X... This was burning 622MB of data.

Now for something really silly ....................

Meaning? I see you're using the A08 as well, pretty quiet eh?

LOL. OK let me repost. For What It's Worth, I use the OEM variety of your burner which is the DVR-108 along with a Pioneer Slot DVD Player and it it's much more quieter then the Slot Drive. Kapish?

Yes I am and yes it's quiet.Concerning my meaning, read your initial response, the latter portion to be specific, and let it sink in

Tiamat:As far as the topic of this thread. It's common sense man.A mechanically sliding tray is going to be a bit noisier than a slot type optical drive.Afterall theres plastic gearing driving the tray and the fact that when the tray protrudes,it reveals the innards of the drive where the noise is generated in the first place.Come on man ... common sense.
Besides that,it can hardly be classified as noisy, much less bothersome.

I know its common sense that the tray is going to make noise. I dont care about that. I dont even really care about the slam noise the tray makes very much.

All i wanted to know is if the read/write noise was louder with the tray than with the slot. As per my situation, the tray has louder read/write than the slot.

OMFG this thread is leading nowhere faster than light.
You posted about the tray noise itself mister! Now you go on to say you don't care about it?
Make up your mind already. You're making as much sense as Sheriff with this line
I use the OEM variety with the Slot and it's not as loud as the Slot

Dude, you need to chill. I posted only because I was not familiar with this product and was wondering what other people's personal experience with this drive was like.

If I may quote myself: "I was wondering how noisy this drive is for any other owner. ...reads off of cds very loudly compared to my old Pioneer OEM DVD106S (Slot load). "

With Pioneer marketting this drive as a quiet drive, I was only wondering. Plus, nobody else complained, so I was also wondering if I happen to get a lemon - it happens! I just wanted verification.

Also, all of the cd-rw drives i have used close nicely, not slamming shut like mine.

If you do not feel like offering helpful guidance, do not reply in this thread. If I want comments like yours, I can visit ard forums.

Thank you.

some drives just spin louder than other drives.
my LG stuff is quieter than my Pioneer stuff, in almost all cases.. I don't let it bother me too much, the Pioneer stuff performs better.

I agree with Tiamat. You need to chill Subhuman25 because if you would know anything about these drives, there is a difference between the retail and OEM version and while we're @ this backn forth bytes I'll quote a Sig from an Elite member so it'll make you posts shorter

Please, stop listing your whole damn rig in the sig, AT System Rig profiles exist for a reason!!!

Thanks for a good reply. I also noticed it burns cds faster than my other "quieter" burner.
