I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but 800.com has these two players for $249 and $299, respectively. If you use the MSN passport 20% off, and then the $30 off $150 (can be found @ slickdeals.net) plus 800.com is offering 10% off all DVDs and TVs you can get them for the aformentioned price.

Quite a good deal, considering they retail at $299 and $399. Free shipping also. Two of those coupons expire 11.23, so hurry up for christmas. (Oh, and you get to return it until 1.5 if you want...holiday policy)

Sorry if this is a re-post!

I owned the Pioneer '333' for a week, but returned it. I like the Toshiba '1600' much better and the price is even lower. The Toshiba doesn't do well with CDRs (from what I've read), but that is not a feature that I need.

I have the Pioneer 525, which the 333 replaced. The remote is indeed very simple, but I've never had to use it because my parents have one of those $150 Sony remotes..

I've been looking for a good universal remote...is that a nice one? Where'd you get it? What model?

Very good deal...I actually purchased one at Mercata for just a few bucks more. The CD-R playing capability was what I was looking for, as my current player does not support that.

I ordered the DV-333, I hope it comes soon. The reason I got it over the SD1600 was that fact that it supports all the media you can throw at it. CD audio, VCD, CDR, CDRW, DVD, etc.

I just picked up the SD1600 last nite. For $110 shipped you can't beat that. I already have a cd player so I won't be playing music through it. Now I can take my dvd drive out of my home comp and put it in my work comp.

The best DVD player for a still reasonable price is the Toshiba 5109. It's a progressive scan player that will give you an incredible quality picture if you have a progressive scan compatible TV. It will work with just about any TV but if you have an HDTV this is the one to get.

Konichiwa, the remote I have is this one, Sony RMV2100. My parents got it around $150-160 at Circuit City if I recall, could have been Good Guys. It's very nice.

For a good universal remote though, you might be able to go with a cheaper one without the LCD screen but I'm not sure which one to get. I remember that Sound and Vision or Home Theater Magazine did a review on alot of remotes so I'll try to find that somewhere.

OMG - the MSN 20% rebate is counted BEFORE the other coupons! That brings the Toshiba SD1600 down to $109.96!

$199 = price of SD1600
-20% MSN = $160
-10% DVD discount = $140 (yep, they took the 10% from the orig $199!)
-$30 coupon = $110 shipped

DON'T FORGET the Toshiba/Pepsi $15 mail in rebate! If everything works out, this player will be $95! Gotta buy Pepsi to get the rebate coupon tho

[edit] The exclusive Pepsi/Toshiba promotion will run from September 18th - October 31st, 2000 and consumers have until December 31st, 2000 to purchase Toshiba DVD players and redeem their rebate coupons.
- from the Toshiba rebate site

Maybe some stores still have Pepsi cutes with the rebate coupons intact? How can they prevent people from getting the rebates after October 31? I'm going to try to find the rebate this afternoon.

The Super Wal-Mart here still had a couple of the Pepsi cubes with the rebate forms, so they're still around.
