At Coralville Best Buy, YMMV. These retail for $685, BB regular Price was $400. I have one and love it except for the blue light. Maybe that's why Best Buy is Clearing them out.

Might be that they're making room for the new Pioneers. I know the VSX-D811 is out which replaces the 810, dunno much about an 850 replacement though. Overall pretty good deal, reason being that this is a 6 channel receiver WITH preouts, you don't usually see that on a $300 receiver.

I have the 811s myself and love it. They are clearing out the 850s to make new for the new ones. The 850 has more power then the 811 and does not have 6.1 (or dd ex or DTS es). Cant remember exactly, go to site to find differences, but they are both excellent receivers, especially for the $$$

No, it has 6.1 and the works. It's the same as the 810 with more power, LCD learning remote, and goldplated connectors. Doesn't have Dolby Prologic 2 is the deal. Might be a drawback if you rip DVDs and have to have 5.1, but Dolby Surround still works.

As far as making room for the replacement, Pioneer doesn't have any other model higher than the 811 listed (except elite of course), so there doesn't seem to be a replacement in the works.

These Pioneer receivers are a great deal. I used to have a 509S, which worked great until some freshmen girl spilled jungle juice in it at a party. I just bought the 811S last week and its awesome! Great sound, 7.1 channel inputs, digital in/out audio. I'm thinking of buying a Radeon 8500 and using the new component outputs through this receiver to my TV.

The 850 has a little more power would should make it ever better. I would recommend buying the 4yr service plan though (instead of Pioneer's crap ass 1 yr warranty).... its like $40 but its well worth it IMHO.

BB dosen't have the reciever on their site, also called local best buy. They said they don't have any, and never have had any....... Has anyone else found any of these at their local BB ?

Thanks! I was able to easily talk the salesman down to $259.60 in Champaign, Illinois, as the box was badly damaged. Still one more "open-box" unit on the shelf at that price.

I notice this does not have DPL2...
How important is this feature?

Dolby Prologic II is well, uh... it's definitely NOT needed. The only things you'll need are DTS-ES and Dolby Digital, which is supported by most, if not all, DVD's. Dolby Prologic on the other hand..you won't need that. In addition, you'll have to find a DVD player that actually supports Dolby Prologic; there isn't a DVD player that I've seen that doesn't have either Dolby Digital or DTS-ES.

I own the 850 (I love this thing!), and I have never used Dolby Prologic.

Oh, I was able to talk the price down to $230 about half a year ago when BB had it on sale for $399. There was an Open Box with a missing FM antenna for $299 (which turned out to be in the box when I opened it up at home actually), and the salesman sold it to me for $270 with the 4-year plan. Great deal!

My view...If you see wires, and certainly if there's a danger of tripping over them, you've done something wrong. Wires should be run in walls, under flooring or above ceilings. A foot or two of wire hanging out from a wall plate or something similar is all I would expect to see to keep the speakers just a bit away from the wall as recommended.

I have two rooms in my house wired for HT. You would be hard pressed to notice wires anywhere unless you looked behind my equipment.

Yeah, I grabbed that receiver at my BB yesterday for $257, along with the free 3-piece speaker kit... what a deal!

The salesperson helping me hadn't previously noticed that the price had dropped this far. He and another employee looked it up on the computer and discovered that it used to sell for $599. They immediately began fighting over who had the right to buy the last one in stock!!!

DPII is great if you watch a lot of TV (a fair number is recorded in DP) or VHSrecorded tapes. Also, remember that shows do not have to be recorded in DPII inorder take advantage of the better decoding process.

Great deal ... is the 811 worth the extra $100 for DPII? I doubt that 40% increase over the 850 is probably not worth it.
