pirated win7 VS legit win 7

if both will get updates in terms of security. Then what would be the point to get win 7 legit. Yea i read MS might not share all the updates with the pirated guys but really what are the disadvantages?

That's only with the trial install, or a warez install that's been outed. A regular warez install will operate as a legit version would.

no telling man - SP1 is right around the corner. they could reduce you to win7 starter with only 1 program at a time or something silly. with the low cost of oem machines that come with windows 7 it is just less hassle to buy a copy.

Right now Microsoft really only does 2 things to a pirated install: Bugs the heck out of you for it being pirated, and denies access to non-security updates. Conceivably you can get away with it in the short-term, but long-term you won't be able to install service packs. MS only supplies security fixes to old service packs for a short period of time, so ultimately you don't get security updates for the life of the OS.

It goes without saying that it's rather nice to be able to install service packs and to not have the computer bug the living daylights out of you. I can't fathom actually trying to use a non-genuine system.

well my version isn't a pirated exactly. i bought a win7 ulimate key off a guy in ebay. It worked for the past 5 months. Then last week it started to tell me its not valid and etc. The ebay guy deleted his account...

So i'm stuck at square one. So i'm consider just running it like this, i get bugged every time i start it up and thats about it.

How much is the cheapest basic legit win7 i can get or what is the best bang for the buck, I paid $30 for the ulimate that lasted 5 months.


how many times can i reinstall win7 and when i upgrade computers can i move my key to the other computer and deleted the HD on the old one? I was told i can not do this.

Except for occasional direct offers from Microsoft, there ARE NOT (and never have been) any "deals" on legitimate Windows licenses.

Any price that's more than a few bucks cheaper than a legitimate vendor (say, Newegg.com) is VERY likely not legitimate. Software sales are very low margin, so vendors can't make a profit selling legitimate software at "bargain" prices.

A typical scam used on Craig's List or eBay is to sell Keys that come from Microsoft subscription services, particularly MSDN. Such installations will work until too many Keys are sold and MS blacklists the Key.

And with Home Premium 7 is only 100 bucks. No reason not to get it, you got to be really cheap to not buy it.

I have messed with cracked OS's in the past and its just a hassle. But I guess some people might live with the hassle just because its free.

Well, there are deals for students, or rather anyone with a .edu email address. I bought Win 7 Pro for like $30 through that program via Digital River. It's now $68 for Home or Pro though.

I do appreciate their approach to copy protection with Win7 a lot more than Vista and XP's. Win 7 is their first OS that I'm happy about everything they've done with it.

ask around man. i have copies i just can't give them out. stacks of win7 ultimate. no don't ask i'll get in trouble. they were prizes and tied back to me. not sure what to do with big ole pile of em since i have OEM and enterprise use already lol.

some folks might not be so considerate of their microsoft status and let you have one or trade or something. But NFR is NFR and when you are certified you don't eff around.

its not really about being cheap. its more or less... what are my options now.

if i can run it as is now and nothing annoying happens other then the pop up once when i start my comp. i can live with it.

Got my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate free from the launch event last year.
Only thing is it says "not for resale" on it. Got both 32 & 64 bits dvds.

I don't see how this is possible. I have 3 or 4 copies of Vista Ultimate that were prizes, and I can do whatever I want with them. In fact, two of the copies are installed on PC's I don't even own (my parents HTPC and my sister's laptop).

NFR means Not For (important part) Resale. Doesn't say anything about not giving them away.

Similar to those that have illegal games,I hope Microsoft one day make Windows free like Linux,nowadays its not hard to pirate Win7 or games so you will always get people or should I say pirates going that route.

Right. I'm sure that it costs $150 to make another copy of a CD, package it in a card board box, and use a computer to generate another product key. Low margins, my ass.
