Pirating XP home edition

I know this is going to sound really stupid but my Dad tells me yesterday that his friend at work burned him a copy of XP home edition. No it is not me, I got in on the XP pro/lava lamp deal. For my own knowledge, what will happen? I heard that you could load your WinXP on multiple machines after like 120 days, but what if this dude my Pop works with activated his version, will it activate any others. I have tried to talk him out of it. Because it's wrong and because he can't even figure out 98 let alone XP.

IN TERMS OF COPYING THE CD....YES IT CAN BE COPIED. MICROSOFT ALLOWS COPIES SO YOU CAN MAKE BACK UP COPIES...OF COURSE THIS IS THE REASON THE MAKE THE ACTIVATION CODE. AND THAT CODE CAN NOT BE USED MORE THEN 4 TIMES WITHIN A YEAR...

Hate to say it but anyone who can afford a computer, can afford a copy of WinXP home or pro. Anyone who gives out copies for friends to use are losers. Support programmers damnit! Computer illiterate people don't realize how much time it takes to develop applications for computers, especially operating systems!

You know I can understand not wanting to buy a copy of XP (even though you can buy an OEM for $85!), but come on, not only will it not work, the two parties can get fined a great deal of money because of it. Enough money to buy hmmm.....let's see.... about 2,500 copies of XP Retail!!!! Also think about some of the resellers. There was a reason this activation feature was made.

I've been to Hong Kong and they openly sell pirated versions of both Home & Pro XP. And I'm not talking about some dodgy looking hawker in a side alley, they sell pirated software in their computer malls.

I still don't understand how they can pirate XP home & pro, if you can only activate the code 4 times a year.
