Those who are saying Detroit fans are white trash...you do realize that Auburn Hills is located within Oakland County. Which I believe is the richest county in Michigan, and one of the richest counties in the USA last I heard.

John Green is the guy that threw the first cup. He's a season ticket holder and apparently he's been banned.
EDIT: lol ESPN just reported this guy has several felony convictions on this record, and drinking alcohol is a violation of his probation. What a loser.

i was at the game, and for such a boring game, the ending sure was exciting. few stupid fans got out of hand, and cooler head would've prevailed, but when you throw in artest to the equation, you know that's not gonna happen. yes i am a stones fan but don't let that discredit me.
granted, if i got hit w/ a beer, i'd be pissed too. but would i go in a mad rush, choke hold someone demaning to know if he threw the beer? (and according ot the interview of the local radio station, that's exactly what artest did.) then there's the other idiot that was by that guy, the one that blasted artest w/ another cup of beer, prompting s. jackson to fly in to deck the guy. btw, i think the original offender was the guy that was pulling artest off, only to sucker punch him from behind. yes fan was at fault for throwing the beer, but artest also could've just shrugged it off and just walked into the locker room. instead he made the choice to go after someone in the general direction. so everyone involved is at fault.
here's my thought: a player has no right going into the stands. and the fans reacted the way they did because they saw one or few of the other fans being attacked. and they saw, one, then two, then more people throwing whatever they had at the opposing players. it's a mob mentality it'd happen anywhere given the situation. and add artest to the mix, and you know it's only gonna get worse.
as for the two "poor" idiots on the floor that got decked, esp by j o'neal's sliding right hook, had no business being there in the first place. altho they'd prolly sue and get some compensation for their stupidity. (good ole usa..) everyone involved lost their cool and just went off. about the only person that didnt' do anything was tayshawn prince, who was the ONLY player to remain on the bench during hte brawl.
i can't wait for the x-mas game, and i can't wait to goto the march home game vs indy. not to mention the playoffs. yes it gave another black eye for the city of detroit, yes we are the STD capital of NA. blah blah.. just add tonight to the growing list. and as bad as tonight's incident was, i was glad i was there to witness the mayhem first hand, crazy.. and at least we didn't throw batteries like some other disgruntled fans.
You say a player has NO right to go in the stands? What if say a chair was thrown on the court for argument's sake? Let's get one thing straight...just because he's an athlete doesn't mean he forfeit's his right to be a man. In this instance I think it's definitely overreaction...from my perspective as far as what Ron Artest did but that's just me speaking from this seat. That said...there are definitely instances where I don't give a flying FVCK if I was a paid athlete, all bet's are off and head's are rolling (like in the flying chair example).
Well put. A player has no right to go into the stands unless he/she (the fan/s) has a machine gun and he/she is mowing people down left and right. I could see an exception being for thatOriginally posted by: NL5

They have NO RIGHT WHATSOEVER. Even if a chair is thrown. Not only does it violate NBA policy, he has no right to "go after someone". It is no longer self defense when you do that. He would be criminally prosecuted for assault. (like he is going to be).
Here is a better example. Someone breaks into my house and assaults me. If I can get to my gun and kill him during the assault, I am in the clear (self defense). If he assaults me, then starts to run out of the house, and I grab my gun and shoot him, I get charged with manslaughter. Do you see the difference?
If the fan came on the floor and assaulted Artest, MAYBE he would be in the clear if he defended himself (he would be legally for sure, but NBA policy probably says he is to remove himself from the situation as they are responsible for the 20k + fans and no good can come from a player assaulting a fan - even in self defense)

HOW CAN THIS NOT BE ARTEST'S FAULT? He ran up into the stands to knock out a spectator! How stupid can you be? I don't care what he did--throwing a drink on you doesn't hurt you at all. If you're that hotheaded that you'd rather be suspended for probably a month or more, have charges pressed on you, probably have to give the fans an expensive settlement, and disgrace your team and the league than just let a drink from an obnoxious fan go, then you're a fvcking idiot.
Same goes for Jackson and O'Neal. The Pacers are gutted for the next month.
so you are ok with people throwing stuff at you?
If these MILLIONAIRES do not have enough brainpower to realize that they can go to prison for assaulting someone with their fists then please get them away from the fans.
Whoever hit the 80 YEAR OLD MAN needs to DO TIME!
