What did the Pistons or Ben Wallace do? Wallace felt like Artest was taking liberites with him and how he fouled him. He was just standing up for himself.

If you want to blame anyone, blame the fans and Artest/Jackson.

And do you see everyone instigate a riot when they are flagrantly fouled? hell no.

Flagrant fouls are a part of the game dude. Not a reason to get all pissy and pummle players with beer and beer bottles. Wallace is a "professional" boo fricken whoo.

The fans were throwing sh!t at players and coaches not even involved....asshats. you can't deny that.

Sure, flagrant fouls are a part of the game. Wallace took exception with how he was fouled and pushed Artest. That was all Wallace was guilty of.

And I agree that the fans were completely out of line. But that doesn't give an NBA player the right to climb into the stands and start throwing punches.

Assualt and battery...sure pushes the envelope doesn't it.

no nba player should ever have to deal with physical UNPROVOKED attacks from fans. DESPICABLE, completely.

Having water/beer thrown at a multi-millionaire is a physical attack?

artest and jackson are soooooo gone. we're talking months and months, maybe the rest of the season.

so long pacers title hopes!!

O'Neal is up there too after he clocked the drunk fan who was already stumbling.

oh yeah... i just saw that on espn. say bye bye to jermaine.

from local sports radio: jermaine o'neal is being sought after by local police. police at the game repeatedly told him to leave, but he wouldn't. soon after, he sucker punched a fan who ended up leaving on a stretcher.

o'neal is going to have to worry about criminal assault charges.

At least now he'll have some time off to promote his album though

I saw a bunch of classless fans that threw beer.

I would have to watch the whole thing in slow motion, but I saw the whole thing once on TV and I didn't see any fans throwing punches at anyone that wasn't one of players in the stands throwing punches.

HOW CAN THIS NOT BE ARTEST'S FAULT? He ran up into the stands to knock out a spectator! How stupid can you be? I don't care what he did--throwing a drink on you doesn't hurt you at all. If you're that hotheaded that you'd rather be suspended for probably a month or more, have charges pressed on you, probably have to give the fans an expensive settlement, and disgrace your team and the league than just let a drink from an obnoxious fan go, then you're a fvcking idiot.

Same goes for Jackson and O'Neal. The Pacers are gutted for the next month.

There were a few instances of fans just pounding away at Artest and Freddie Jones in the face FROM BEHIND. I would call that an unprovoked physical attack.

A few thoughts...

Artest should be suspended for 10+ games. His foul on Wallace alone is worth a game or two....up by 15, 45 seconds left in the game, NO NEED FOR THAT KIND OF CRAP.

B.Wallace reacted to that foul, and that push will get him a game or two....S.Jackson should also 10 games...J.O'Neal should get suspended for 25 games - he completely nailed a fan who had come out on the court, as dozens of fans did..this fan, who was wearing a Piston jersey, had already been pushed to the ground by Artest, and WAS ON HIS KNEES, when O'Neal came flying in from the side and crushed the guy's face with a huge right hand punch, the fan wasn't even looking at him - yes, the situation was a mess, and yes, the fans were way out of hand, but you can't just start nailing people out of nowhere.

Artest got hit by a beer and a cup that by the time it hit him was already empty. Big F'ing deal. Outfielders in MLB get hit by beers from fans near the fence all the time - probably at least once a week - you don't see them snapping.

Artest even sprung off of his ridiculous perch on the scorer's table when Ben Wallace hit him with.....a wristband...that's right, Artest hopped up from his (target) position like he was going to come after Wallace....so you can only imagine how he was going to react after getting hit by a beer..

Just an ugly, ugly situation.

assault and battery
n. the combination of the two crimes of threat (assault) and actual beating (battery). They are both also intentional civil wrongs for which the party attacked may file a suit for damages.

does it matter who it is. hell no

What part came first? I honestly do not know...

Was it

Players attacked fans with their fists or the other way around?

hmm...watch the tapes dude. who threw the beer?
READ:

battery
n. the actual intentional striking of someone, with intent to harm, or in a "rude and insolent manner" even if the injury is slight. Negligent or careless unintentional contact is not battery no matter how great the harm. Battery is a crime and also the basis for a lawsuit as a civil wrong if there is damage. It is often coupled with "assault" (which does not require actual touching) in "assault and battery."

wallace will be gone too for starting it.

one fan should have been booted by security for throwing a cup at artest. when artest and jackson went into the stands, the whole arena went off. You CAN NOT GO INTO THE STANDS. You know Stern hates Artest anyways. So long, sucker!!

If these MILLIONAIRES do not have enough brainpower to realize that they can go to prison for assaulting someone with their fists then please get them away from the fans.

Artest rushed the stands and pounded on him. But as he was getting pulled away, a fan from right behind him has the bright idea to punch him in the face a couple of time. Same thing happened to his teammate, Freddie Jones, who was just standing there watching the whole thing. After that, all hell broke loose

I'm not condoning what the fans did.

Artest and Jackson (or any player in any sport) should NEVER go into the stands and physically assault a fan. They got a beer in a plastic cup thrown at them. It wasn't like the guy threw a knife at him. Artest completely overreacted and I don't know what the hell Jackson was doing up there.

If you want to talk about assault and battery, how about we talk about the 6'7 professional athlete throwing punches at the fan in the stands. You can't tell me that having a plastic cup of beer thrown at you justifies you climbing into the stands and beating down people half your size.

This is WHY the police have levels of assault they can charge someone with

1)Artest struck the WRONG GUY! He was not defending himself.
2)He went into the STANDS and STRUCK A FAN! Regardless of what provoked him, that is just plaine WRONG!
3)Jermaine and Stephan Jackson should be fired from the NBA for entering the fight AND STIRKING MORE FANS as opposed to pulling Pacer teamates away from the fight.
4) Did you see Jermaine beating the crap out of a Senior Citizen!?!?! :disgust:

5)Wallace should be suspended 5 games for instigating, Artest 10, it isn't season long or a lifetime ban only because he thought he was defending himself, and Jermaine and Stephen Jackson should be suspended for the season.

Thank you... so Artest is the first person who made personal physical contact between fans and players
