Why not have fights pitting Dachshund against Dachshund? It would be an even playing field and both are apparently very aggressive and temperamental so they should be good fighters.

I obviously agree that ANY dog or animal can be trained to be aggressive and dangerous and obviously I understand that a pitbull is a tad stronger than a Dachshund.

But, I'm sure you would have NOOO idea about them because they tend to be rare, and not many who fight dogs can afford that breed - hence not many media reports. So explain to me why Pitbulls, Rots etc are then chosen as the dog of choice for dog-fighting etc? What makes them a better choice over the, apparently more aggressive, Dachshund or Retriever?

Because that dachshund doesn't have the body like a pitbull that makes people naturally afraid and want to run and do things that excite a dog. Next time a dachshund is going crazy run away from it and scream -- it'll probably attack you --albeit it won't hurt at all, it all still boils down to the owner being able to control the dog.

Pitbulls are naturally better herders/can take more pain than any other dog just like certain birds are better at flying than others. BUT its still how you train it that will teach it that it's not good to attack.

We have a dachshund that always barks at kids outside and runs for them if they are near the yard but she has never harmed anyone. She stays inside her territory and is all bark, even when we have guests come over all she does is bark.

Thanks for correcting my grammar. I suppose it's better than correcting your idiotic questions...right? YOU were the one who ASKED why they don't fight smaller dogs against each other. Thanks for asking a question and then once having a response completely ignoring that response. Must be because you know all about pitbulls and other dogs and why they attack, etc and you just don't want to share it with all of us. Hopefully one day we can all be as eduated as Homerboy...one day...

Ummm I think you are missing the point. Pitbulls, as a species of dogs are naturally MORE agressive than (as your example) a poodle are.

They also list the percentage of dogs that pass and fail the tests based on breed. IT was discovered that based on relative temperament as percentage of pass or fail, pit bulls came in 116th out 202 breeds for having bad temperaments. A Dachshund has a worse temperament according to ATTS than a pit bull. In fact, a pit bull is comparable (scoring slightly better) in temperament to a golden retriever.

I think it's definitely the case that no breed is per se dangerous or aggressive, and that it's mostly a function of training, but the fact of the matter is that pit bulls and rottweilers inflict a disproportionate percentage of serious bites. I do not know the origin of this kind of rape behavior, which presumably isn't a question of training, but I do know that if that were my dog it would be dead before the sun went down.

Properly trained a pitbull can be a great pet, safe around children and other dogs.
