I remember when a neighborhood dog came in my yard and started attacking my dog and I slammed it in the head several times with a cast iron frying pan. It didn't even faze him or redirect his attention on me. Dogs can go full-on berzerker. Another time one ran up to my dog while we were walking down the street and no amount of stomping on its face would register: It just kept attacking my dog (years later; different dog). Those who say that the pipe changed things are wrong. It's clear that the pipe did not disable, weaken, or distract the dog. It was all up to the horse.

My college roommate had horses and Dobermans (Dobermen?). One day I watched a couple of the dogs annoying the crap out of a horse - not biting, just yipping at his heels. Very nonchalantly, while still grazing, the horse bitchslapped them across their heads, they were knocked several feet and knocked the F out for a few minutes. They got up, walked away, and my roommate said it would all happen again soon enough.
