After researching on good PIV coolers, good thermal grease, etc, I've decided to be cheap and use the stock Intel Cooler, and generic Silcone Grease. 1.8A overclocked to 2.6GHz stable for 15hours+, Generic DDR 2700 @384 MHz DDR!!! 3DMARK 2001SE @10893 with Geforce 3 Ti 500 @stock speed.
Those with the 1.8a, be sure to try it out!

I'm not very sure, I received this processor back in May. I don't think it could be one of the newer steppings

Nice overclock, congrats.

Can you please post your idle/full load CPU temperatures. Just as a benchmark.

Thanks
Speedy

While idle...the temperature remains at a constant 40C...when under full load...it hits 58C
I am currently on 1.65 vcore.... I played RtCW for 6 hours straight, no crashes or anything. Then I kept my comp on for another 5 hours running Sandra's burn in test at highest. I think its pretty stable...I tried 2.7GHz stock cooling...it still works stably, but my memory can't handle it.

Ok, finished Prime 95 for 4 hours straight, no crashes, very rock stable. I still didn't test the memtest86, but I will do it later when I go to sleep. However, I noticed that on Prime95, the temperature is cooler than play a game; around 3-4C cooler.

Nice overclocks! I'm looking to do the same. I've been pricing the 1.6A and 1.8A and came across www.ATACOM.COM and they have the option to buy 1.6A/1.8A that were made in Malaysia. The price difference is $35 for the 1.6A and only $5 for the 1.8A. Does anybody know for fact that the MALAY CPUs clock higher?

I noticed someone say they couldn't get past 140 or 150 FSB trying to overclock. I don't know what their overclocking knowledge is, but there are many factors that could be holding them back. If that person could tell us what motherboard, BIOS settings, RAM, CPU cooler, and any other hardware devices that are present, I'm sure we could help you overclock more.

I think most people can't hit 140FSB or 150 because their memory can't handle, or overheats. I have a tiny 40mm fan that I attached on the ram's heatspreader. Also, I'm thinking about buying a good cooler...say the ThermalRight AX 478. I know its a good choice, but for the fan...I was wondering if the ThermalTake Smart Fan is a good choice.

hey guys. i'm not sure if i'm the guy you're referring to, witholding system specifics and all.

but i might as well give you all my info to see if my max fsb i can get of 140 is due to me, cpu, mem, mobo, etc.

p4b533-e
1.8a 06/10 costa rican blend
1 x 512 samsung original 2700
80 gig wd 8mb
2 x 40 gig maxtors
chaintech geforce 3 ti200

cpu voltage is 1.650
ddr voltage is default
memory settings 2.5/3/3/7

my memory ran at 2/3/36 but since i've gone to 140 fsb with a 3:4, that's the only way i can get it to boot.

open to any suggestions, thanks a bunch.

First off, that's not a bad overclock for your ram(373 for 2700@ default voltage). I would try a higher ddr voltage say maybe 2.7. I would also think about uping the cpu core.

Hey Blurry, I run that heatsink combo (AX-478 with the Smart Fan II). It works decent. I am overclocking my 1.8A on my 4G4A to 2.7ghz @ 1.7vcore. Thats using the probe taped to the bottom of the heatsink next to the heatspreader. On this board I idle at 39-41C and hit full load temps of 54-55C, but the fan is almost silent at idle and I can just start to hear it over my noisy Antec case fans. It goes from 1700rpm to 3500rpm (highest I have seen). It also has kick butt mode, where you can plug the potentiometer cable in and turn it all the way up to over 5K rpms which suppose to have nearly 80cfm. At full speed (loud) my temps only hit 50C at full load.

If your using a different brand board the temps don't seem to vibe. These Epox boards seem to read higher than say an ASUS.

I can hit 2.79ghz at 1.75vcore, prime95 stable though.

Not sure a better heatsink will get you better overclocks though. It was/is that way with AMD's, but I had the same overclocks with my watercooler and the stock heatsink. Just differences in temps.

i envy those that can hit 2.7 or 2.79 :Q with a 1.8a.

as for as cpu voltage, if i up it one more, it'll be over 1.7v idle. i've heard that's bad but when it's under load, it drops below 1.7 .

i'll most likely be upgrading to a 2.53 next week. i've had fun playing with this 1.8 but it's about that time again. . .

i really want to hit 3ghz with that 2.53

I sure hope my coming AX 478 will help cool down my CPU. My processor can go as high as 2.754 GHz...but the draw back is that I have to keep the case open in order to have stable performance. BTW...how how the Corsair XMS series? I'm planning to get a stick of 256MB DDR 3200 since my current memory breaks out at 156MHz FSB.

Yep,JuicyFruit is pretty much at his limit for his CPU.Even if he tweaked it a bit he won't be gaining much. His CPU is basically like mine 1.6a@2.3,a dud.Atleast thats what we consider it from what others are getting. His mobo like mine overvolts .06 so at idle he's at 1.71 Volts and 1.65 under load, same as the setting. Some say 1.75 is ok but 1.7V is where you like to be at idle to make sure your safe. You could go an extra .25 on voltage but you wouldn't be gaining much.If your going to get a 2.53 (good choice) your are better off.

Blurry,Corsair XMS stuff is excellent PC3200 cas2 or the PC3000 cas2 is the way to go.Samsung has some new DDR 400 ram out thats suppose to be pretty good. Its only available in 256 but 512 should be out soon.If you can, spring for one 512 stick. If you can only afford 256 than fine, but don't get 2 sticks of 256.It will hold you back in overclocking a little and possibly run into problems as a lot of people are having with 2 sticks with certain mobo's.

I suppose I have no choice, but to go the 512MB route since my current DDR RAM won't be able to work with the Corsair DDR 400. Thanks for the input.
